There seem to be no posts today of the forums. Is there a problem?

Yes.

We tried to turn on a secure login and wrapped things into a knot.

Back to normal, thankfully.

I hope the problem is solved.
Both https://www.elvastower.com/forums/ and http://www.elvastowe...orums/index.php in Frirefox lead to the same site, a warning of security issues. However, in Internet Explorer, http://www.elvastowe...orums/index.php opens the forum, while https://www.elvastower.com/forums/ reports a security problem on the page.

Same here with Chrome: https://www.elvastower.com/forums/ throws a danger warning with Kaspersky and Windows Viruschecker and cannot be loaded giving a 404 error.

Yes, most browsers will warn you that your password can be intercepted if the log in is not encrypted. That has been the case for this board since day 1, roughly 18 years ago. I would like to change that, not so much because I'm worried about passwords being stolen but so end users are not pestered by such warnings. AFAIK you can always tell your browser / security software, effectively, "yes, I know you want to block this, but not today".

We tried to implement the modern, secure connection the other day and got caught by a surprise that took about 36 hours to clear up. Which is to say we remain with the same characteristics that have been present for 18 years.

Hopefully we can figure out where we tripped up and evade that stumble again so those messages don't appear anymore.

Hi Dave, to let you know, no trouble logging in on my lap (WIN10) and i'm able to navigate around the forum.
However, just tried on the desktop machine (WIN7) and got blocked...so I went to the basic ET address http://www.elvastower.com/ --- got that page okay, clicked on the forums/files and okay again, however, when I try to navigate around the forums, I get dumped back to the 404 message...not found on this server. Running latest firefox on both machines. Way above my expertise, but anything I can do to help? Gerry

Hi Gerry,
Clear your browser cache! How you do it depends on which browser you use, but just Google it!
I just did it for Chrome and I'm back to normal (fingers crossed!!)

Cheers,
Ged
