I am developing an evolution of our national TCS.
I am noticing that in modern locomotives train drivers are confronted with alphanumeric messages shown on displays, sometimes preceded by a time stamp.
As of now, if one wants to display alphanumeric strings in OR cabs, the only possibility is to create .ace files or frames where the strings are "hardcoded". It would be simple if one could have at his disposal a feature where he simply provides the alphanumeric string and eventually requires to add the time stamp.
Is this feature of any interest, or do we have only in my country such complicated DMIs (driver machine interfaces) ?

I can seed this being useful too if someone wanted to create the passenger information display inside a carriage. These sometomes scroll, and contain a lot of information.

Not only TCS, but that could be hardware diagnostic messages, so why not?

This indeed would be useful an very helpful. Now a days in North America we got special things in the cab displays whether Guage displays messages.
Like the Track Monitor but more advanced an horizontal we have PTC (Positive Train Control) acting as so a track monitor in real life. PTC may be ways away but I can teach you how it works as it uses the projected Speed/Distance.
Has some of this been planned for Web Server displays as a start? I have template ace files i would like to enter characters to display as if i was making an 2D or 3D Cab.

More functionality in 3D cabs is always welcome. :-)
Cheers,
Marek.
