Monogame not rendering snow Mullan Pass Act "Into the Storm" Rate Topic: -----

Somewhere between REV55 and REV59 Monogame stopped rendering snow. I started up the Mullan Pass Activity -- "Into the Storm" with REV76 and no snow on the ground ...so I started checking. Here's the screenshots and log from REV59.

appears with all versions. have not had time to look into that. Tried both Revisions with and without reshade...no difference.

I tested the legacy activity St. Anton - Innsbruck in the winter of EUROPE2 with OR NewYear MG rev. 76, and I see snow both falling and on the ground

I have 76 and have just run "into the storm" and the snow is falling and on the ground?

I think I have some more troubleshooting to do...thing is I'm kinda baffled.
Here's why:
Did a fresh install of mgRev76 --- tried "into the storm" with & without Reshade...no snow on ground.


ORTS Stable Ver1.3 and MG Revs up to 55 -- snow on ground. ( MG revs - with&w/o reshade )

Ran an activity on the Feather River with snow using all MG versions that did not show snow on ground in Mullan - snow on ground in Feather River.

Sooo.. doesn't the above prove a couple of things?

Can't be activity -- because it works in Stable Ver1.3 and MG up to Rev55.
Can't be Monogame because all the versions render snow on the ground in the Feather River route.
What the deuce am I missing...kinda baffled...or am I finally going stir crazy??? One of these days somebody needs to separate active precipitation from ground texturing so we can have
  • no active precipitation/dry on the ground,
  • precipitation/nothing on the ground,
  • no active precipitation/ the effect of recent precipitation on the ground.


It would require \rain texture directories, just like \snow, another ESD_Alternative_Texture() value and the necessary decision tree in the code that uses the data in the Activity area to figure out what to display.

Try setting PreferDDSTexture to false.

Carlo, I tried that, did not solve problem...so I did a clean vanilla install ( no patches ) of the Mullan on another machine...ground snow is there...had to be my error, although I believe you were on the right track. Somehow I was not careful enough and messed up the original install with regards to textures.

You've made this good point before Dave, and the total environment/weather system does need work...eventually someone with an interest in that aspect will appear...I hope.

Hello,

I noticed this problem in both the CN Ruel and the MRL Mullan routes by TS. I did a little experimenting, and I believe that the "Reduce Memory Usage" checkbox in the OR Monogame general settings menu is the issue. When selected, the snow terrain textures will not appear in Ruel and Mullan. When unselected, everything appears normally in those two routes.

I haven't noticed this "bug" with any of the other routes I have.

I found this solution using OR Monogame v88, in case anybody else has this problem.

If you have the optional 'Performance Tuner' active it could cause this.
