OR will not load this file: "gR_CA_As_#1b_21x025m.s", nor any similarly named file. I suspect it is the # character (hash mark), but it might also be the length of the string. Either way it is an acceptable file name to Windows.

I would appreciate if someone could ascertain whether that's the problem.

Thanks!

P.S. if you are wondering what gR_CA_As_#1b_21x025m means, it is:
gR = generic road
CA = City, arterial
As = Asphalt, straight*
#1b = number 1 lanes (i.e., closest to the center of the road), both directions**
21x025m = 21ft wide, 20m long

* Asphalt, concrete, cobblestone, streetcar cuts, railroad cuts, freeway in straight, curved, crossing and tee shapes
** the convention in the US is the number 1 land, or fastest lane, is nearest the center. Each additional lane gets the next available number, in both directions, one way, left lanes only, right lanes only.

So the string, while long, is as concise as I can make it w/o removing spacer characters.
