I've used Archibald for years to edit .s files. Unfortunately, my desktop computer took a complete digger two weeks ago--a failed motherboard and CPU. I wound up getting a new computer and I'm now re-installing all the various utility programs, etc. on it. Fortunately, all my data files were intact. I was able to download and reinstall Archibald, but when I try to open an MSTS .s file with it, I get an "ILLEGAL DATA" error. With my new computer, I simply copied over my MSTS folder--I no longer use the MSTS program, so I didn't bother to reinstall it. I also have installed the latest version of .netFRAMEWORK. I dug around the web looking for a solution for the Archibald issue, but I've found nothing helpful. I was using it on my old machine that I had upgraded to Windows 10, and my new computer is Windows 10. I'd be grateful for any possible solutions or suggestions that anyone might have. Thanks.

I don’t know for sure but it could be that Archibald uses some file or registry entry created by the MSTS install process. I have not used that program for years so it is just a guess. If you are able I’d try installing MSTS and see if that fixes it.

I just set up a new laptop ( my first one ) --- Win10, installed Archibald and the other TK_Utils into a non-protected directory that has all my OR stuff...no problems whatsoever, try re-installing the whole package again. MSTS is not installed, did not even check about any net frameworks installed.
This is from the instructions: so I think any net framework is sufficient.

Only requirement is that you have 'Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1' or later,

I re-downloaded and re-installed TK Utils. I checked--I have the same NET Framework files in my new computer as was on my old one (I have an image of the old drive). I still get the error. I don't where to look next. Weird.

.net Framework version 1.1 isn't included in later versions of the framework and has to be downloaded and installed separately.

Thanks. Apparently, Archibald ONLY works with version 1.1. Archibald is now loading .s files correctly since I installed .net Framework 1.1.
