(I decided to start the season early)

It's October 27, 1940, K-36 #481 departs Chama at 2:10 AM with 64 empties. The crew (Conductor Bryan, & Engineer V Cummins) were called a couple hours earlier the previous day (10:45 PM on Oct 26), & they did 1 hour 30 minutes switching, waited another 1 hour 40 minutes waiting for extra 489 west to arrive with it's train, & 10 minutes to test the air.

The empties are 63 stock cars & a caboose.





Soon, the train pulls into the Azotea siding. The siding has a car capacity of 32 cars.

After 1 hour 40 minutes meeting extra 487 east (23 loads, 1 empty) and saw by extra 470-484 east (46 loads, 1 empty), X481 west continues it's trip.







Soon, the train stops at Monero to get coal.

After 5 minutes, the train gets underway, & rolls through Lumberton...





... & Dulce.

The train rolls through Navajo.

At Juanita, the crew sets out 10 stock cars.



At MP 389, a drawbar was pulled out.



At Gato, the crew sets out 9 stock cars & have something to eat.



Soon, the train gets underway again.

As the train rolls downhill...







... it rolls through Arboles.

the train stops at Tiffany to drop off 7 stock cars.

[motor1]

As the train heads west...



... it rolls through La Boca..

[motor1]

The train rolls through Ignacio.



At Pine River (a spur), the freight waits for the San Juan.



After 25 minutes, the freight gets underway again.
