Recently I've been working my way through the activities of the posted Super Chief Activity. As posted there is no traffic defined in the activity, however a lot of static consists are posted throughout the route. ('m up to Raton Pass 3 now. I started adding traffic and started running into a number of head-on meets. I reviewed discussion here on ET and on Trainsim about paths and setting up traffic. The one thing I have done is that using the contributed software Trackviewer, I was able to add passing routes along the paths. once this was done traffic and player trains were deconflicted by the dispatcher. So the question....I read somewhere that the dispatcher looks ahead of AI trains and player trains for that matter 2 or 3 signals ahead to determine setting up passing. Is this valid and if so, is it 2 or is it 3 ahead.

It depends on the signal script as to how far ahead the dispatcher logic looks.

The distance cleared ahead is referenced in Sec. 10.4 of the Manual. Basically, in signaled territory, track is cleared according to the SigNumClearAhead value for the first NORMAL type signal in front of it (since those are the only type that actually control train movements)
