I don't believe so. It's just used to color the wire for overhead electric service

Yes, Chris,
but at boreal regions, snow crystalls and even ice are often appear on contact wires during cold seasons, as fog being frozen on cold copper after hours without traffic activity, so first train produces alot of sparks.
In case of massive ice, special de-ice measures are need, to avoid Rolling stock and catenary damage. So, the problem is serious.
Typically used:
-mechanical-by special draisine, eqipped with pantograph, having vibrating "ski", propelled by compressed air; or
-thermic-by short-time overload current action (feeding substations has "solid-ice melting" capability by switching on special cirquits).

I understand what you are suggesting happens in real life. What I'm explaining is how the texture is used in the game

:)
In real life, the colour of the wire is different under some weather and season conditions.
So will it work if we'll have 2 variants of texture at folders Global\Textures(dark,common) and \snow(white,winter)?

P.S.
Cool X-overs ;)
what a perspective!

By the way, one of TGV models had constantly-sparking pantographs, so...
