Nothing says B&O of the mid twentieth century like the unique "wagon-top" design, built in B&O's Mount Clair shop. B&O had the 3rd largest postwar boxcar fleet and their cars could be seen all over the country. The M-15 and M-53 wagon tops represented 15% of B&O's boxcar fleet in 1950. [55% of the B&O boxcar fleet in 1950 was the M-26 and M-27 class, clones of PRR X-29's, as modeled by Tim Muir and available in the library here].
Geoff Brown has repainted 7 versions of both classes of wagon-top boxcars representing all three paint schemes. They are really nicely done with light weathering (as appropriate). The model is by George Matthews.
In my opinion, no transition era fleet should be without these cars.
These cars were built in 1935 and 1941.
The cars were painted as follows:
- original simple capital dome (1935-1945)
- "13 states" logo (1945-1953)
- large B&O (1953-1960's)
Note: I am uploading these cars on behalf of Geoff Brown with his permission -- Christopher Parker
