Hello,
I would like to ask. what can I animate on a steam locomotive and tender ?

Can I animate a locomotive tender opening a hatch while filling water?

Hi...

Are you asking from the standpoint of an "end user" or "modeler" - as there's not much you can do as an end user ?

As a modeler - there's a great deal you can animate - as we now have working 3D Cabs and all the controls that entails...

There is no control to open a water filling hatch on a tender - however - I think there's one for water scoop that you might be able to fudge to get it to open a hatch... I haven't tried it - so you would need to experiment within your modeling software... It would probably take pressing two keys - one for the water scoop and one to refill your water...

Regards,
Scott

Scott’s suggestion should work. If there are no other doors on the train a door animation could be used also.

Hi,

In addition, there are now four pantograph animations available for extra loco animations. Just label the animations PANTOGRAPH1 through 4 and do whatever animation you want with them.

Add the following to the wag section of the .eng file.

ORTSPantographs (
Pantograph (
Delay (6s )
)
Pantograph (

Hi Mike,

That's good to know and one I never thought of before...
;)

As long as we're here - any thoughts of animating a connecting rod on a tender - for a booster truck ? Can it be done with what we have or do you think it's not possible now ?

Regards,
Scott

Thank you all for the news, yes, I solve the animation from the perspective of the creator :)

question to you others, can I find all the available animations?

So I have a question to the creator of the OR, if they read it. It would not be possible to make an animation to open the water-fill hatch with the refill.

While I am not an OR developer I like this idea. That would be an interesting and good way to handle this I think. Open the hatch and activate the refill sequence along with any subsequent animation of the water tank or spout. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
