Isn't that a cool shot of 1592? It's always been a favorite.
This talk of W's had me taking the 1548 out for a drive last evening, another interesting specimen of the class, with it's unique front end arrangement of full length running boards, built-up steel steps and cast steel pilot. It also retained the short firebox of their original design, being an oil-fired machine (since before 1934). But it lost the glass cab number boards that were unique to the NP for awhile.
The artwork is bland on these old models, so I set about embellishing the old textures with a bit of weather treatment and clarification. It's about halfway there.
1548 pulls into Elsweyr station, passing the Eating House (by Chris Gerlach) a few paces south of the depot.
I located this photo of 1548 after a wreck that may explain it's unique "modernized" front end later on in it's career.
Tacoma, WA, 1948. The No.1548 was dismantled here in 1958.

It sure is. Looks like the photo was taken just east of town in Hellgate Canyon. Nice weathering you did to 1548 there.
Here's 1548 pulling an eastbound a mile or two west of Bearmouth, Montana.
Noticed 1621 in the background of your B/W photo in front of the smokebox of 1548.
1621 eastbound through Drummond, MT.

Thanks!
it's very satisfying to see the W's on home turf! The 1621 has been a hard one to find a good prototype photo of. This sad pic (another one from Steve) is of it's final appearance before it's dismemberment at Tacoma, Washington State. May the 19th, 1958 :( It's the only shot I have other than a tender back end pic.
I dug up the now ten year old TSM files for 1548 and made some corrections, poly deletions and retexturing. It now has new pony wheels (off the Ma&Pa 2-8-0) and bolts on the steam chest saddle. All the weathering is from weathered metal panel images and dust decals from Textures.com, over the original art on low-opacity layers. The final .bmp or .tga image was then Clarified before processing through AceIt. That final act tends to lighten and add crispness to it. I am using Pain Shop Pro 7.4.
I don't know if this updated version will run on MSTS. It does need an updated engine file with better use of OR effects and such.
Tender next. Then what? I have some antebellum passenger cars to paint...
Anyway, back to the Private Route topic,
A scene at Elsweyr, overlooking the Goose Hollow district, located in a holler below the depot. Should've called it Gerlach Hollow, with all those farm houses and characters of Chris's populating the area.

Hi Folks,
Some mighty fine "steam" shots ya'all have here. Nice work all around.
Love that Mikado.
Anyone else notice Tim uses 3D trees? Blender has a bunch of tools to make 3D trees quickly. When I get some time - I'll have to dive deeper into them.
What's wrong with PSP - Randy?
:)
Tim's using a VERY old version.
Regards,
Scott

It can be a pain..but I stick with it because I get good results with the old war horse.
Really? That would be nice. I've been thinking about making 3D conifers, pointy trees, as I don't have any, but it would not be a quick enterprise in TSM. There are some good materials for textures at Textures.com, like branches, an example can be had here.
Working into Argernon on the Puzzle.
More sprucing up the artwork on this engine and tender.

Love that Mikado...Scott
Thanks! Me too. :)
I'm adding some bits to the original 2013 shapes. I don't have MSTS installed anymore, so I can't test it on that platform to see if it works. I'll upload this new version of 1548 to the MSTS Beta Test Files section of our library so that anyone can test it on a Bin functional MSTS installation. It's engine file is the original MSTS version.
Continuing work on the weathering and improvements. These new aces should work on the old original MSTS 1548 in the library, too.
I guess this topic would be better off in the builders' forums ;)
So here's the last bit of work. I think it's nearly finished. Screen shot from Monogame 139. 9:40 in the morning, looking nearly dead North. Camera (Nikon F ;) ) on free roam, FOV at 23 degrees.

Yeah, Tim. I'll give it a try this weekend on my MSTS installation and let you know how it works.
Thanks,
Matt
