It's summer, a Union Pacific freight (MNYPU) departs Denver at 7 AM as it begins the trip to Pueblo. The train is running on trackage that was owned by the Rio Grande.

The train climbs the grade as it heads south. The grade between Denver & Palmer Lake varies between 1.03% & 1.42%.

The train crests the summit at Palmer Lake, & begins descending the hill to Pueblo.
