On many occasions these days my mouse cursor does not appear when running OR. That's usually not a problem as I'm most often just checking on something or running a test but even so its obvious something isn't right... but what? It's never missing in any other program.

The mouse still works (I can rotate the image)... it's just the cursor is gone.

I thought it might have been a usability factor (I use a larger cursor display and have added a "tail" so it's easier for me to see on white backgrounds. But after changing all that back to default (or so I thought) there still was no cursor in OR.

Anyone else have a missing cursor? Did you figure out the cause?

Just curious, are you using the generic Windows driver or a device specific. My system is using the generic Windows driver and have never had the cursor vanish.

I use a driver specific for the mouse (an ergonomic mouse that is turned 90d so my hand position is kinda like shaking hands), But I've used this type of mouse for many years w/o losing hte cursor in OR.

I've learned the mouse cursor appears when OR is run in windows mode. It does not appear in full screen mode.

What can account for one mode working and the other not? Should this be regarded as a bug?

That's odd; it should be the case that the mouse is hidden in both modes unless:

  • The mouse is outside the Open Rails window
  • The mouse is moving or was moving in the last couple of seconds
  • The Alt key is held down

This matches my experience on Windows 10 here, but it should not depend on OS version.

I do not believe any of those conditions are present. Is there anything in particular I should share that might shed light on what's going on? Tests?

If none of those conditions are present, the cursor will be hidden. It is only made visible when one or more of those conditions are met. However, I am assuming you're seeing different behaviour in window and full-screen so it's not that simple.

A log file so we can check which settings are active and which version you're running might help. It would also be useful to know whether the mouse ever appears in full-screen mode (i.e. when moving it, or Alt is pressed) or is it always invisible?
