Is it possible to make a copy of a saved game as a safeguard against a crash ?

My method is for use in this situation described in Hobo's first post. The "Save Pack" created can be copied elsewhere and, after a crash, be opened on a reinstall or new install of OR and the activity in question.

As to Crash, I am assuming that you mean a loss of your HD. If that is the case, why not include the c:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Open Rails\ folder in you backup and have a copy of all saves available?

A good point Charles. In fact, I do have them included in my backup schedule but do we all?

c:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Open Rails\Load Cache\

One in here with a random value.

You don't need this one - it just makes the loading progress bar more accurate. Everything will work if you have an old/incorrect copy of this or it is missing (although the loading bar may behave less accurately).
