Welcome to Southwestern Colorado! The railroad you are about to download is different from most routes. It MUST, MUST, MUST be installed in its own Mini Route and not combined with other railroad routes. It features customized track pieces that will not function with a standard Global folder nor will other installations work with this Global folder and included tsection.dat. This route is intended for ORTS Only.

If you are unfamiliar with Mini Routes and their construction please stop now and refer to this Link:Setting Up Mini Routes

If you already use mini routes you can copy one of your existing mini’s, rename it to “Rio Grande Southern,” or a name of your choice.

Once created, whether you did a new or copied Mini Route, delete the GLOBAL, ROUTES and TRAINS folders from your new RGS Mini.

Now, follow these Download links from DropBox and get your copy of the ROUTE, GLOBAL and TRAINS folders

WARNING! These are very large zip files. Plan your time accordingly. If you select Download and Direct Download they will go to your Downloads folder.

GLOBAL

ROUTES

TRAINS

Once you have the zip files downloaded and have extracted the files to a secure location, copy the GLOBAL, ROUTES and TRAINS folders from the download into your new mini.

That should complete your installation.

The TRAINS folder has nearly all the locomotives, Motors (Galloping Geese) and cars from the Downloads here at ET that are appropriate for the RGS, plus many clones, with appropriate consists which should allow you to be running right away. There are five activities that you can use to become acquainted with the railroad and its operations.

Attached are a collection of documents which I hope you will find interesting and helpful. There is a “History, Operations & Equipment” document. There is a tutorial on operating the unique three way switches at Dolores and Rico. There are Activity Instructions for the freight operations . There are timetables and special rules for the railroad, as well as tonnage ratings for the various climbs. These documents are duplicated in the Documents folder in the RGS-V4 Route folder.

I highly recommend using Open Rails Train Simulator to run this railroad. The locomotives and motors provided will not run in MSTS – virtually all of the cabooses will not load in MSTS and if you can get the locomotives to run they will be missing parts added with ORFreightAnim.
