Hi,
I've not been able to officially report a bug because I'm not able to create a Ubuntu One account - it keeps looping around, asking me to verify my email address!

The problem is simple, but I'm not sure whether the solution will be. I am referring, primarily, to headlights and side/ditch lights, ie those which are controlled by the "H" key.

Scenario : Two locos coupled together. Uncouple the second loco. The lights on the second (uncoupled) loco assume the Bright/Full setting of the switch, irrespective of its original setting.
There are no "Out of Service", "Weather" or "TimeOfDay" conditions set in the Lights section.

It appears that Open Rails doesn't use the Headlights Controller entry in the .eng file - maybe this is why the problem occurs?

I have tested with various UK and North American locos using both Explore mode and a simple activity; MSTS doesn't have this problem - any illuminated lights are extinguished on uncoupling.

Cheers,
Ged

Can confirm the behavior seen by you, uncoupling causes full bright setting on uncoupled loco...

I quite agree, Carlo, but as I reported, I tried registering with Ubuntu One but was asked, repeatedly to verify my email address. Subsequently, I discovered that every time a verification was requested, an email was sent to me saying that my email address was already registered. I got 7 such emails!! I've never registered with Ubuntu One before - could it be that my registration details have been transferred from the "old" bug reporting system (bugs.launchpad.net)?

I will try again later today.

Cheers,
Ged

Sorry, Ged, I overlooked what you wrote in first post. I'll do it for you.

I've created a patch for that.
Please try with attached files to be replaced into the standard Open Rails 1.3.1-42.
Attached File  Runactivities.zip (1.13MB)

Hi Carlo,
Thank you.
My initial tests, in Explore and a simple activity, the second loco's lights do not now illuminate when it's uncoupled.

I think it needs more extensive testing, by other users, to ensure unintended errors haven't been introduced, but it's looking good :)

Cheers,
Ged

To confirm my understanding of the problem and the potential fix implemented, does this mean that when two locomotives are connected to a Player train (or locomotive - either directly or indirectly) their marker (ditch) lights should be illuminated? And when one of the locomotives uncouples the marker lights will extinguish on that locomotive?

If my interpretation of the problem statement is incorrect, then please ignore the rest.

If my understanding is correct, I would have concerns about this approach as I think that the marker lights should only be extinguished if the locomotive is out of service, ie shutdown. There could be other scenarios where a locomotive is uncoupled but remains in service, and hence the marker lights should be lit. For example, where a bank (helper) locomotive has been uncoupled, especially as in theory, it might be "fouling" an operational line and needs the marker lights for safety reasons.

Can you please confirm whether I am correct in my understanding?

Thanks

With the proposed patch the lights of the detached loco are off if the loco becomes part (or is) a static consist, and get lit in all other cases. As it is in general for OR.
