I am trying to use the new Consist Editor that Goku created but cannot find where it saves consists. I have the installation of MSTS saved in to it correctly and i can create and save a consist fine but then i cannot find it anywhere??????????????

when the main editor installed it also disappeared. I cannot find its install location but suspect it is still in the folder that i had the original installer in? otherwise i have no clue where it installed but i can access TRES by restarting the installer so that is ok

but i have no clue where the Consists are being stored. NONE.

any help much appreciated. I can use the old consist creation program but want to try out this new one...if possible.

it would help to have SOME sort of place to choose a location to SAVE TO

Chris

It should put it in the CONSISTS folder of that installation. I've never had it go anywhere else. I believe TSRE has a log file of sorts in its install folder, which might show a consist being saved

You probably have your Train Sim installation on a C:/Program Files directory and Windows is protecting it.

HI Goku
thank you the editor is very nice! :sign_thanks:

yes i do and i guess that is what happened. the error log says:

"c:/program files (x86)/microsoft games/train simulator/trains/consists/USMRR TRAIN 1.con"
[I] con file write error. file not open "c:/program files (x86)/microsoft games/train simulator/trains/consists/USMRR TRAIN 1.con"

so is there any way i can tell WINDOWS to allow access? should I change the Read/write setting for the installation of MSTS? it is installed in

Program Files (x86) -

or is there any way to ask the Consist Editor to save the Consists to a custom folder?

i didnt know we had to make sure to install Train Sim in to C:

UPDATE: i just checked and the MS Sim folder was indeed on READ ONLY i am changing that and hope that fixes the problem.

Chris

What's your OS? If it's newer than XP, you'd be better off just getting out of Program Files (with or without x86) entirely

Hi Travis thanks

yes it is windows 10 as this computer has the best big monitor.

i am trying a copy and paste of the entire installation to see if that will help. I also changed the READ ONLY statues of the current install to see if that helps too as i would like to be able to use the old original MSTS editor for activities if possible.

thanks for the replies!!!!

Indeed. This is a known pitfall. All kinds of other problems can occur when the route/trainset profiles are in the programs file. You found the right solution.

I was holding out for the old location because i thought i would have to use the old MSTS activites editor but it is a piece of S *** crashed three times and threw error fits over rolling stock that i had deleted...so it is gone to the trash can..i will use the new TSRE consist editor and activities editor by Master Goku with great pleasure they both have great 3d preview windows and you know exactly what is going on...thank god.

MSTS is a piece of junk and always was fussy and outdated . :D :( 8P :angry2: ...thank goodness we have Open Rails.

You should not use MSTS in the programs directory. Asking for trouble. See http://msts.steam4me...ng_msts_w7.html
