The Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway (P&SR) is located in the West side of Sonoma County. Seen in these 8 images, I caught one of the three daily P&SR runs between the namesake towns of the Petaluma & Santa Rosa.
Image 1-3) These images are at Two Rock, CA. The EB train is coming out of the siding and screams for the 45 MPH max speed along the line.
Image 4) The train navigates the shoefly at Bloomfield, CA.
Image 5) The train now navigates the "awkward" wye at Bodega, CA. Originally the line only came West, towards Santa Rosa, but with the help of the S.P. and NWP, the P&SR built an East leg and double track towards Bodega Bay and the intermodal facility there.
Image 6 & 7) The train creeps through the middle of Sebastopol & Graton, CA., as it progresses towards Santa Rosa, CA.
Image 8) The train has arrived in the P&SR yard and P&SR 600 is running down the depot track to pull the train into the NWP-P&SR Santa Rosa interchange yard and sort out the cars for the NWP pickup in 3 hours.

Regards,

-Frank C.

Early morning on the Fourth of July and I ventured out to catch the first wine train of the day. Today NVRR 5076 is doing the work with 5 ex-WP dome cars in tow.

Image 1 & 2) Crossing Trancas Street and the Highway 29 offramp in Union, CA., the train accelerates from 5 MPH to a whopping 10 MPH.
Image 3-5) Sitting at Rutherford, CA., the crew takes a break in the dome-cafe while winery goers are in the nearby tasting room.
Image 6) Arriving in St. Helena, the crews see their first signals of the day, as the line between Schellville and St. Helena is signaled while St. Helena-Napa is still TWC.
Image 7) After dropping the cars at the depot, NVRR 5076 runs for the wye to head back towards Napa. For some reason the NVRR 5076 is only allowed to lead long hood forward due to a coupling issue.

-Frank C.

Because I forgot to post it here, I am going to reference it. This is a continuation thread of the SAEU-M saga from yesterday! The train was grossly under powered and then one of the units decided to give up. The NWP had some interchange power in Petaluma, CA., that they stuck on the headend. To see the previous set of images > https://www.trainsim...961#post1952961 <

Anyway, the next day, I opted to catch the EUSA-M. Unlucky for me, they kept the interchange power on it back to the NWP. Worse yet, IT WAS LEADING AGAIN!

Image 1) Splitting the signals at Hopland Depot, the train is about to descend the hill between Hopland and Cloverdale.
Image 2) Looking away at Hopland Depot.
Image 3) Half the train is on the hill and the other half has just exited the tunnel and entered CP East Cloverdale. I am shooting from an old yard lead.
Image 4) Asti Road at First Street has a pair of intermediates, primarily to protect the local lumber lead, but also for depot approaches.
Image 5) The power has cruised through the intermediate and I just barely glimpse the signal over the SLUG unit.
Image 6) I managed to get across the bike path in Healdsburg as the train was going through the roundabout. Here it is passing me.
Image 7) The going away shot and massive curve to the Russian River bridge in Healdsburg.
Image 8) I didn't quite make it in time to catch the lead unit, which I guess is a blessing, as the train blasts over Airport Blvd., in Windsor.
Image 9) Crossing Windsor Road at Windsor-River Road, the train will see color as it approaches Coffey Park...
Image 10) Creeping through the Northern industrial area of Santa Rosa, the train has just knocked down the East Santa Rosa signal.

-Frank C.

Shortly after the EUSA-M came through, I heard the dispatcher call the UP 7400. It seems to have been captive in "Wine Shooter" trains often, so with this knowledge I went to Healdsburg...Sitting on the 800 track was a set of DPU's and a TRACK FULL of ARMN reefers, known around these parts for being wine storage cars. It wasn't long before UP 7400 and about 30 cars came racing West, clear the CP and shove back, make a hook and depart! I then took chase!

This will be a two part series, as the forums only allow 10 images per post.

Image 1) Sitting on the old turntable lead, the UP7400 crawls past me. At the ped crossing they stop to let off the conductor.
Image 2) Up around the curve towards the Russian River bridge they go!
Image 3) Over to the bike trail I went to catch the rear. For reference, this crossing is about half way into the CP.
Image 4) They cleared the CP, got a restricting back into Healdsburg yard and the conductor has lined the derail and is calling shots from there.
Image 5) Train has been laced up and the conductor walked back to the headend. The train has thus departed and is crossing East First Street.
Image 6) Across the Russian River with a full train bound for the East Coast.
Image 7) There go the DPU's...If I counted right this train is 76 cars deep at a length of about 5,623 feet, just a mere 343 over a mile long!
Image 8) Airport Blvd., in Windsor is a nice quad crossing protection with ped gates. You have to be REAL STUPID to get past.
Image 9) Starr Road and the intermediates there show a different story and signal setup, as they are some of the newer "Vader" signals.
Image 10) Passing Santa Rosa North platform, the train starts to run on some color into Santa Rosa, CA., as the congestion ahead is THICK!

-Frank C.

This is part two.

Image 1) Crossing 6th Street, the UP7400 and today's WINE SHOOTER works on a diverging approach diverging.
Image 2) The UP7400 is almost up to 3rd Street, as it clears the FREIGHT BYPASS with a diverging clear.
Image 3 & 4) I skipped up the bike/ATV trail to Roseland Wye, where I captured these two images after the UP7400 waited on Main 4 for a few trains to clear up. This is where the railroad goes from 4 mains to 2 mains again.

Yesterday I took the train to the city and walked up and down the Embarcadero catching the E/F-Lines as well as busses galore! I also managed to catch TWO turns of the SF Belt Railway working. First trip had 20/24 and THREE streetcars coming back from Brookville. The second trip had 20/25 as 24 ran into issues as the light power was going back to the yard...I caught 20/25 as I was waiting for an F-Line Car back to Ghirardelli Sq., to catch my train home.

The NWP 4404 leads a Westbound freight of 30 cars towards San Francisco, CA., as it comes off the Golden Gate Bridge and passes through the "Toll Plaza Platform" it is looking a diverging approach signal.

I've been around, sort of...Some captures of a late evening and early morning P&SR run are to be had!

1&2) Passing through Graton, CA., this train sees the last glimpse of daylight as it rushes towards Santa Rosa, CA.
3&4) Pounding across the 6 track diamond of the NWP/S.M.A.R.T. mainline, the train is actually crawling at 15 MPH into the P&SR Yard.
5-8) The next morning, the P&SR power is seen pulling a variety of cars from the NWP Interchange yard, including two passenger cars bound for Bodega Bay.
9) A quick stop at Two Rock to pick up some seabees headed to Bodega Bay for some work on a naval ship in the berths there and then the P&SR train is back on it's way. At Valley Ford, this train will meet the Westbound Counterpart that left Santa Rosa an hour prior.
10) A quick teaser, the rest to come...4014 was spotted along SP territory (Novato, CA) in the San Francisco North Bay before heading back to SoCal and out to Arizona...

Regards,

-Frank C.

I apologize for the missing images, we are currently suffering a power outage in the California area, THANKS PG&E, and the server hosting the images won't be back up for a day or two at minimum...Stay tuned though!

Mid-day switching in Sausalito, CA., takes place in these two pieces of work. The X4431 switches the industries around Sausalito including the tank yard. Meanwhile the 4404 is part of a manifest train being made up on the West leg of the wye, taking up 3/4 of a mile of track space.
