If MonoGame runs natively on Linux, indeed the .net core might be the right approach here. However the codes using the System.Windows.Forms and System.Drawing namespaces should be split from the program, because they don't have a native Linux counterpart. Currently some helper WinForms windows are residing also in RunActivity, and the main selector form is WinForms too. The more bad news is that all the fonts displayed in the HUD, in the internal OR windows and in the Cab are drawn using the System.Drawing namespace. This method should also be replaced with something else, like SharpFont.

would be interested to learn about the challenges you've seen. But as Carlo mentioned, there is no attachment.

If you are interested, the MG fork I'm working on ("Ultimate", see signature) is now running on .NET Core.
While .NET Core is fully supported on Linux (https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download), I've not done any tests for OR MG under Linux and .NET Core, and can imagine a couple areas causing issues. Still I think using .NET Core might be the right aproach for a (native) OR version under Linux.

Hello,
I just sent the attachment in my latest posting (this time I even checked it...); be my guest!
Apart from that I still have problems with running MonoDevelop itself on my Linux system; I may have to clean up the Mono implementation I have. I will report later when I have something significant to say (whether success or failure).
Regards,

I have OR MG running on Linux via Wine, but I spent a lot of time configuring it. .NET installation usually fails, so I had to try it several times until I succeeded. Also, I had to install Direct3D shader compiler through winetricks in order to get it working. However, once everything is set up, OR performs well.

In comparison, I have found compiling OR on Linux easier. I only installed some NuGet packages in Monodevelop, as far as I remember. I have some problems with the compiled RunActivity executable, but everything else works well both with Wine and Windows.

Cesar,
I seem to have stirred up some hornets nest here... Thanks for your reaction anyway; I will see what I can accomplish here.
Regards,

Hi Hans,
thank you for sharing this to us and I wish you success. There is no attachment in your post however.

Carlo, and other interested parties,
I just tried to put the file in a previous post, but something went wrong there (again...). So here is the next attempt...

found the answer

Hi, is this for the NR 3D cabview problem? Is there anything I can do to make the cab workable? Or does the OR code need to be adjusted?

Thanks.

Hi Adam,

No, I was having a reshade configuration problem, but I found the answer in an older post.
I have not heard any more of the NR 3d cab problem.

I have experienced the problem too, and found out that the NR cab works fine in stable (1.3.1), but crashes in OR NewYear MG. But I have no idea why.

MMax and xreightaa, can you please check with the actual Unstable release?

Ok, so I updated OR to current unstable U2020.10.24-0721, and the locomotive actually loads, the 3D cabviiew has a major stutter (which I think is addressed in the MonoGame version?). Then it hits a critical Out of Memory error as shown a few minutes into running the loco, which I thought was odd , my hardware is pretty capable.

I gave the loco a run on the Australian route in the Open Rails log and the default NEC route just to make sure, and same program-ending message.

Thanks
