In a way, I'm forced to use the MSTS for a further while, because the route I support is still driven by some users only with MSTS. I am also very familiar with the MSTS RE and I do not like loosening traditional habits, even if the quirks of RE often annoy me :-). However, TSRE helped me out of at least one emergency situation, when a TDB-problem with the RE could not be solved. I very much welcome the fact that the TSRE exists and one day I will definitively change over.

...and in all my using it in MSTS I never had to to reset the shape . . . ever!...

Agreed; I've been using this shape file fix for years (even prior to OR), and have never needed to touch the world files for the change to take effect.

I am still not convinced that the problem is fixed without resetting the shape in RE. I just change the header of the shape file "JP2FishBoat.s" from:

    volumes ( 6
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 2.89376 0 ) 6.24062
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 2.89376 -5.96046E-8 ) 5.94345
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 2.89376 -5.96046E-8 ) 5.94345
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 1.67859 -5.96046E-8 ) 5.50522
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0.51852 1.67859 0.084411 ) 5.14816
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( -0.597145 0.756266 0.084411 ) 4.14643
		)
	)

to:

    volumes ( 6
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 2.89376 0 ) 600.24062
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 2.89376 -5.96046E-8 ) 500.94345
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 2.89376 -5.96046E-8 ) 500.94345
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0 1.67859 -5.96046E-8 ) 500.50522
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( 0.51852 1.67859 0.084411 ) 500.14816
		)
		vol_sphere (
			vector ( -0.597145 0.756266 0.084411 ) 400.14643
		)
	)

and in JAPAN2 in MSTS the boat still disappears at closer proximity comming from the east.
In OR all is fine after that change and the boat then still keeps visible no matter witch angle you look at it.

PS: It's too bad Vince, I thought you were the (last) buddy using MSTS RE according to your statement on the left: Simulator: ORTS_Running / MSTS_Editing :-)

In MSTS RE

You are correct. In RE, the Vol_Sphere from the shape file has no effect. I cannot remember in MSTS but definitely in RE.

In RE, the vulcan bomber aircraft still clips/vanishes from a certain distance!

Thanks

Thanks for the approval, but to anticipate misunderstandings:
The MSTS RE derives while placing a shapes in a w-file the size of the "ViewDbSphere" from the vol_sphere of the s-file.

However, the vol_sphere of the shape often does not take into account the spatial extent of the animation movement of the shape. Therefore, the "ViewDbSphere" in the w-file will be calculated too small by the MSTS RE.

Cheers to OR and TSRE - ViewDbSphere-Free-Zones!

With x.4334 OR now manages the animations, if any, to the root matrix.

Hi Paul,

Be sure to have "Logging" ticked on the OR opening screen as animation errors are flagged. The PRR does have shapes that apparently don't animate properly as seen in these or log clips:

So the log may be a good place to have a look. I've never looked into these shapes, too busy pounding spikes. http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/bigboss.gif

best regards,
vince

Edit/add: With regards as to boats at one river in the PRR on the NEC part near I think Perryville the original builders had a tugboat and barge in view of the train as it crosses the bridge,As an experiment I took one of those animated smoke plumes, there are 3 to choose, and laid it on it's side and when lined up and partially sunk in the water behind the barge is makes a respectable wake.
