I've finally come back after one and a half years from my last post for the MT 4-8-2s. I hope everyone will be happy with the new changes in the mesh for the model and I'm doing the Non-Skyline cased versions too.
Update 1: I went through my models and have come to find that the original boiler model to have too small of diameter compared to the actual measurements from the boiler drawings. So I designed a solid model to see how much I was incorrect. Then I took plates and created a high poly version of the boiler. The boiler is hollow just like the real thing so if I ever wanted I also could 3d print it. The Smoke Stack, Cab and Domes are from the drawings in my book as well. I made sure that they were correct in shape too.

Update 2: I completed the outside sheet metal of the Firebox area and rearranged the low poly rivets to locate the highpoly rivets and staybolts.

That's all for this week. Will post more as I continue on this locomotive.

Update 3: I lowered the cab height as the original floor was 4 inches too high. I also lowered the front walkways over the cylinders as they were too high from the centers of the air reservoirs, New railings are in the works. I built a new SUNBEAM headlight as this model is a prewar non-skyline cased version from 1925.
A view of minor progress.

Helping Matt here...
southern pacific mountains types 4-8-2s ran from the 1920s into the 1950s, often leading crack limited trains, such as the golden state limited, pacific limited, sunset limited, etc. When more powerful GS locomotives joined the fleet these 4-8-2's were shifted to mail trains and later in life, freight trains.

Update 4: So Today I decided to do a similar process that I did on my boiler sheets for my Wheels. I created High poly models using solids in MasterCAM to create a pre-design from original builder's drawings. My spoked Trailing wheel is very nice and clean and my pilot wheels have also been profiled correctly using the correct measurements provided in the Locomotive Cyclopedia of American Practice from 1925. I'll be slowly rebuilding the entire mesh from solid models from the original drawings over time. The Drivers will be redone once I purchase copies of the driver center drawings from the California State Railway Museum Archives. The Side Rods and Main rods will also be included and the Crosshead will be redone too.

Update 5. So I took some time to go through my book again and located the main rod for the SP MT Series 4-8-2s, which actually saved me a lot of guess work as the CSRM Collection doesn't have the main rod drawing, but they do have the connecting rods and Eccentric Crank. I have placed an order for those parts and will be getting them in 2 - 3 weeks from their scanning supplier.

Masterful work. Museum quality stuff, Logan. One of my favorite classes of locomotives, SP's 4300's!

ALCO Built in 1925. These were the top of the line Passenger engines until the birth of the 4-8-4. In 1930 SP would order Baldwin built GS-1 Class 4-8-4s to replace the 4-8-2s in the Several major Limited Trains. These then were sent to secondary trains and in 1941 were pushed to freight. They would do part time operations on passenger again after WWII, but to ultimately be retired due to dieselization.
