Hi Goku,

I have some issues with the "load Map Tool". The image from "OSM Vector" doesn't load, even after about 15 min of waiting. Clicking somewhere on the editor evetually leads to a crash. The Google Raster Images both load for an eternity but not resulting in a program crash. I tried a clean reinstall of TSRE5, aswell as a older version where it worked for me just fine some weeks ago. No change. The "load Height Tool" works flawless, even in older versions.

Also I'd like to thank you for all the work you put in TSRE5, I really appreciate the program even though I'm having this Issue.

Regards,
Monis

Indeed the OSM layer no longer works. Probably something changed in their API.

Is there an alternative, working just like OSM or will this issue be fixed?

OSM now uses only HTTPS and TSRE can't request this now.
Until it's fixed, try Google layer. Ask other people how to configure it.

Now the Raster layer is fudged because of Google's meddling. I've jumped on the bandwagon, only for the API to stop working correctly. I get a gray background with a bunch of circles with exclamation points in them. Goku, we need an alternative.

Google layer works fine for me. You need static maps api key to have full access to google images.
But on June 11th Google changes product structure for maps platform, so after 11 June it will stop working.

I have generated several api keys yesterday to no avail. Which is where my suggestion of an alternative to Google's static maps api comes in. I've looked into other open source alternatives, but you are the program developer, so I thought I would refer these to you. I started here, and looked at this one. What should we do when the Google Maps API stops working next month?

1. There is no free aerial imagery for whole world. Only local sources. Using Bing api maybe could be possible because it is given to use for OSM mappers but Bing images are low quality.
2. For maps there is only one alternative (in fact better than Google Maps): OSM. And TSRE uses it.

Well, that's stumping me. I am also looking at the Bing Maps, but have also come to the same conclusion that you did. Google provided an easier way before they decided to give more support to gaming studios; that may be a factor in this debacle.
As for the maps, didn't you say something earlier in this thread about https not being supported by TSRE? I wonder if that's also a reason I'm having trouble with Google Maps API.
