Here is another addition to your logging operations - a Barnhart steam powered log loader.

Prototype

Barnhart loaders were designed to operate on rails mounted on top of log cars or flatcars.
A removable inverted U shape was place over the rails between the cars to connect the cars.
The loader winched itself from car to car with a manually place cable.

A complex chain drive swiveled the loader from side to side.

All movements were powered by a dual cylinder horizontal steam engine fired by coal or wood.

A typical loading operation would have the Barnhart on the second car of an empty string. First car
would be loaded, then the Barnhart would winch itself to the next car and load second car. This would
continue until the Barnhart was on the last car.

Model

The model was completed with 3DCrafter 9.3 Build 1620 from a TSM beta version here in the ET Library by Allen Norton aka B&O Guy.
Since the model is high poly, it is for OR only.

Use your favorite consist builder and build a consist. The Barnhart is set up with OR FreightAnimations as Barnhart-car.wag .
Several loaded and an empty log car are included.

Credits

Thanks to Allen Norton for creating an excellent TSM model that only needed detail work.
Rick, the Grindre for reviewing the model.

Legal

You may package and distribute this model to whomever you wish as long as everyone keeps everything free.
