Rio Grande Southern Pierce Arrow Motor #4.
Revision: A (ORTS Only)

Prototype History:

From the early 1930’s to the late 1940’s, the Rio Grande Southern Railroad survived on the backs of their fleet of homemade motor cars which were originally called "Motors", but eventually became known as the “Galloping Goose.” Expensive full crew passenger trains were replaced with one-man operated motor cars rebuilt from Pierce Arrow automobiles with freight vans attached at substantial savings in operating expenses. They allowed the railroad to survive two decades longer than it otherwise might have.

The Models:

Motor #4 was built in 1934 using the body of a Pierce Arrow Model 33 Limousine. It evolved through various equipment changes and paint schemes during its operating life. These models represent RGS Motor #4 as it appeared in 1934, 1936, 1938, 1940, and 1942. Each Goose has working doors left and right (Q, Shift-Q), inside views for the Motorman and passenger, and hoods that can be opened (Shift-V) to improve engine cooling in the summer.

This models are for "Open Rails" Only; they will not load/run in legacy MSTS.

Drawings, photos and prototype information:
