Hi there,
I am wondering if OpenRails calculates wheelslip, and where it calculates it.
Does someone know that?

Thanks

I don't think OR has done much about wheel slip. I get wheel slip starting a single unit on straight level track at 4% throttle, of when I move a camera around in views 2 and 3, and often when moving from one tile to another.

Couple of Curious things about OR and wheelslip
1. Used to be that OR would produce wheelSlip warnings when loading a highly populated tile in a route --- for some reason that appears to have been corrected.
2. Since I started using the ORTSMaxTractiveCurves my instances of WheelSlip have noticeably dropped off. Perhaps it is how OR interpolates the MSTS file data vs. OR using its own native physics with the ORTSMaxTractive Curves.

I just don't know enough to say what is going on.

I still see wheel slip due to processing delays. Loading tiles is one of the reasons.
I see processing as the cause of wheel slip when coasting. The F5 Debug Screen is helpful here.

Edit:Add
The MSTS Tech Docs file Eng_and_wag_file_reference_guidev2 has some interesting things to say about 'Adheasion' and 'NumWheels' both of which have a great deal to do with wheelslip.
Someday I hope all this will make sense but for now ain't it great being in on the development of a truly great Sim?

regards,
vince

Yes Vince, i know you're having a ball learning ( and teaching ) the new TSRE, I have had my interest in math and physics awakened. I'm having a good old time.

Yes it does. It applies wheelslip under power or braking if the slip conditions are met. What it does not do yet is allow controlled wheelslip such as is used in AC locomotives.
