File Name: Timetable for WP3 route
File Submitter: Gro.Bi
File Submitted: 04 Feb 2018
File Category: Beta Test Files

Simple timetable for the WP3 Route. Drive the California Zephyr from Portola to Oroville and meet some freight trains coming along in the opposite direction.
Requires the Western Pacific Feather River route by 3DTrains and the rolling stock included in that route.

This topic should be moved to "Open Rails".

I was so pleased to finally see a Timetable Activity published. And --- on the Feather River. WP3 is one of my most favorite routes.
Your CZ westbound is really wonderful and so well done. 16 A1 Trains --- WOW !
I ran the entire route on a snowy afternoon in Maine and was most impressed. Tried to maintain +/- 2-3 mph within the posted limits,
while running at 15-16 mph in passing sidings approaching meets. Below is a breakdown of meets (after Keddie as I was just enjoying
the ride up to that point).

Location Train Arrival Time Meet Time Departure Time Wait Time
Siding/Block Clear
Keddie Player 08.23:27 08.24:27 4min. late
Twain RFTe5 08.43:30 08.45:22 < 2 min.
Virgilla RFTe6 08.54:15 09.06.15 09.06:45 12 min.
Rich Bar RFTe7 09.17:45 09.21:25 09.23:01 6 min.
Belden MOW RFTe8 09.32:40 09.40:58 09.43:36 11 min.
Camp Rogers RFTe9 09.52:15 09.58:20 09.59:00 7 min.
Tobin RFTe10 10.08:35 10.22:20 10.24:14 16 min.
Merlin RFTe11 10.36:25 10.38:05 10.38.22 2 min.
Pulga RFTe12 10.55.15 No wait
Poe RFTe13 11.04.58 11.07:22 * 11.06:51 *Note No wait(34 min. late)
James RFTe14 10.23:25 No wait (50 min. late)
Elsey RFTe15 11.35:30 11.37:27 11.37.00 No wait
Kramm RFTe16 11.46:48 11.58.15 11.59:30 13 min.
Oroville Player 12.06:49 91 min. late

Total wait timecalculated at 93 minutes. Interestingly, delay / wait times correspond with actual average
performance for many long distance Amtrak trains that operate on major freight lines.

GREAT JOB Thank you

Russ G

PS This experience was a wake up call as to the ease of developing Timetable Activities. Once I saw it on
paper (a picture is worth--------).

Thanks for the positive feedback.
When I began creating this timetable (~ 2 years ago), I was not aware that it would be interesting for others.
I just wanted to find out for myself an easier way of creating activities and so I generated the ‘AI trains’ more or less randomly with a spreadsheet program and copied it into the timetable (described in that topic: My link). That was no big effort (except creating the cons and paths). In addition, the times of the ‘AI trains’ are created randomly and are not adjusted to sidings. During my test run, I met train ‘RFTe17’ at Kramm at 12:26, having an own delay of already 111 minutes.

Regards,
Gro.Bi

The beauty here is that it is so easy to change timing. Say, change time of arrival at Oroville to !!:15. One could also fine tune the A1 start times. Lots of possibilities.

Being quite familiar with and living in New England, I am looking at developing timetable activities for Conn River and other B&M routes similar in concept to what you have done.

Thanks again,

Russ G.

I attached the spreadsheet file here that I used to create the WP3-timetable. Maybe it can be a suggestion to you of what is my method of creating.
Concerning the start times of the freight trains: I my opinion no adjustment is necessary as in reality freight trains seems to run randomly. Because of this, the path of the freight trains in the timetable has passing paths at every siding, so that meets can potentially take place everywhere.

Can you recommend a New England route? I think I’d like to have a look on this…

To the administrators: would it be possible to set up a subcategory for downloading timetables in the ‘Open Rails (Only) Files’ download area?

Attached File(s)

  • Attached File  WP3.xls (56.5K)
    Number of downloads: 17

Yes, I see you point. Thanks for the spreadsheet. I highly recommend Paul Charland's Connecticut River Route. It is in the TrainSim Library.
