I see this error (right before OR stops):

Warning: The route is not electrified. Electric driven trains will not run!

That's not how it used to be and if you think about it there is absolutely no reason to test for it -- the overhead wires do not conduct electricity!

The real issue tho is this test makes it impossible to run any mixed infrastructure route. If you say not electric you cannot run those trains and if you say yes to electricity you cannot run any of the other kind.

Please remove this test so OR operates as it once did, allowing all kinds of locomotives to run.

I fail to see why this is considered to be a bug. After all, it is a fact that electric trains will not run on a non electrified route, but any type can run on an electrified route. The test route that is available on the coalstonewcastle site is electrified, and will allow anything to run. You don't even need to have visible wires if you don't want to see them.

Open Rails >> Options >> Simulation >> Tick "Override non electrified route line voltage"...

I do hope there will be an option in the future to specify which parts of a route are electrified and at what voltage.

Then it will only be possible to run the correct electric trains on the correct bits of the route and not any train anywhere.

(Well unless you check the override box :):) )

I'm still hoping/proposing a "wire database" which handles the modeling of catenary wires, where the run, where they're anchored, their voltage(s), etc.

Because there is nothing else in the software that requires it. It's completely arbitrary... fundamentally no different than asking you your name and if your answer isn't in the approved list having OR close.

A question: If you check electric, can you run your electric trains on "non electrified" track? If yes, then what is the purpose of having the option?

Also, for many years OR did not have this requirement. What was the justification of adding the check?
================

At some future date when track itself has an parameter of Voltage() and PickUpLocation() then, and only then might it make some sense to compare those attributes to the electric locomotive you want to run on that track. Before then it is just nonsensical.

I still do not see it as a bug when as Hamza97 has pointed out, you can set this in Options/Simulation if you. need it. Use that option then electrics will run on ANY route.

Please explain what else in OR depends on that flag being set to electric. If it has no purpose it should be removed.

I had the distinct feeling that we were supposed to be working on a simulator. As at present there is no way to add flags to track indicating if it is electrified, we have to use the MSTS flag in the route trk file. If on the other hand we are actually working on an arcade style game, then there is no reason at all why any locomotive cannot run on any track.

I tend to think we are supposed to be working on a simulator and therefore electric locomotives do not belong on non electric tracks unless towed by another form of power.
