Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I have some questions regarding the brakes systems in OR. I observe the following behavior:

When the loco is not light(not solo but has a passenger or freight link is attached) and when I release my train brakes( ; ) , the BC reduces faster until 0.9 bar and it takes way too longer for it to go to 0. Until then, the throttle is locked and my train won't move.

Usually I do a brakes initialize (Shift+/) to make the BC to become 0 and then start moving. Recently I bought a RaiDriver and wish to have a keyboard free experience in moving the train.

I want the BC to go to 0 at a faster pace. I hereby attach the .eng and .wag file for my consist.

Could someone provide me a solution for this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dinesh,

The eng file looks ok, but the wag file is a corruption of an eng file.
The wag file needs to be built properly.

Hi engmod,

Thanks for your reply. Could I ask you what seems odd with the .wag file?

May I know what changes should be done?

Thank you
Dinesh

The wag file is a renamed eng file, I don't know whether this is the problem.

You need to go back to the author and ask them to redo the wag file.

I've had a look at the .wag file and it appears to be a normal .wag file! The only value which might cause a problem is the second Coupling's Velocity entry - the value should have a minus sign before it (ie Velocity ( -0.15m/s ) ).

Can you indicate what makes you think it is a "renamed eng file", please?

Cheers,
Ged

MaxBrakeForce ( 150kN )
Adheasion ( 0.2 0.4 2 0 )
DerailRailHeight ( 10cm )
DerailRailForce ( 2.5*54.36t )
DerailBufferForce ( 800kN )
WheelRadius ( 0.4825m )
NumWheels ( 4 )
Friction (
864N/m/s 0 1mph 2.87N/m/s 1.8
5.1N/rad/s 1 -1rad/s 0 1

This block is straight out of an eng file?

I have just checked a default wag file,

Adheasion ( 0.2 0.4 2 0 )
DerailRailHeight ( 4cm )
DerailRailForce ( 2.5*66t )
DerailBufferForce ( 400kN )
NumWheels ( 8 )
Friction (
100N/m/s 1 -1mph 0 1
5.1N/rad/s 1 -1rad/s 0 1
)

The only thing not present is WheelRadius. These parameters however have absolutely nothing to do with BP recharge times. I don't know if the brake distributor data included in the wag file from the OP is actually working or not. I do know that I have never seen those lines in any wag file until now.

Hi slipperman,

I tried changing the second velocity value in .wag file with a negative sign. The same problem persists.

Hi copperpen,

Thanks for your reply.

You are right, those brake distributor data are obsolete and I have no instances expect for this .wag file with those data. I removed them. There seems to be no update. I have a consist 16 coaches with one locomotive and 15 passenger wagons, when I start open rails the values are following:

Lap EQ:84 psi BC: 4.5 BP:5.8 EOT BC 4.5 BP:5.8

Now I release the brakes

Quick Release EQ:110psi BC: 3.8 BP: 6.1 EOT BC: 3.8 BP: 6.1

from then the drop is way too slow. I have attached the screen shot after quick release which has the brake information on all wagons.

Thank you

I highly recommend a visit to http://www.coalstone...s/brakes/#wagon which specifically deals with eng and wag air brakes for OR. Take plenty of time to study all of the information provided. Part of the problem is that the compressor ratings used by MSTS need to be tweaked for OR and correct sizes set for reservoirs. Adding the brake pipe volume to the wag section and giving it a reasonable volume is another item that will assist in improving release times. If you set up your eng and wag files as shown on that page, it will give you a solid base for experimenting with values that work.
