Which version of DirectX does it use? It would be nice if some .so files could be developed for this game so it can port. But the problem is, isn't it strictly tied to DirectX (or Direct3d)?

So, a prefix would have to have Mono, Monogame, DirectX 11. What else? What version of .Net?

If it uses DirectX 11, then try Wine 3.0.
MonoGame should work on mono, but maybe OR uses other .NET dependencies than for graphics. In that case you need to install .NET framework inside Wine.

Does it have to be a specific version of .Net. I had to put .Net 3.2 sp1 on a 32 bit wine prefix for the regular game to work.

Yes, thanks for continuing with the MG updates Carlo.
I have a big speed improvement in FPS - timetable mode with many trains active. Also improved textures display, less "shimmer" and moire.
I can continue building my route and timetable with confidence, that it is within the practical limits of ORTS
