Dewey oscillating cylinder std. gauge steam loco for Open Rails
HISTORY
More than 20 were built by Dewey Brothers in North Carolina from 1898 to 1913. Several variations were built - 0-4-0, 0-4-0T,
0-4-2T, 2-4-2T, both NG and STD gage.
They were primarily used in logging and brick manufacturing operations.
The design was not overly successful as the seals between oscillating cylinders and steam box were difficult to maintain.
Result was excessive water usage.
However, now they can live on in the virtual world.
MODEL
Loco was created with 3DCrafter 9.3 build 1620.
Frédéric Zamit, a large scale modeler from France, generated an excellent side view plan from an obscure quarter view photo.
The rest is based on a few other obscure photos.
This model is for Open Rails only.
This model, like the prototype, has no lights or air brakes. The brakes are mechanical engine only.
However, because of OR coding, you will have to use the angle cock closed / open when coupling / uncoupling.
CREDITS
Frédéric Zamit for his Dewey postings at the Railroad Line Forums website that provided the inspiration to build the Dewey.
Rick, the Grindre for his critiques and shining wheel tread idea.
Sandy River Tom for an excellent crew set.
LEGAL
You may package and distribute this model to whomever you wish as long as everyone keeps everything FREE.
Engineer and fireman shapes & textures ( MG-TS-Dewey-CrewF ) are provided for this model and may not be copied, modified and/or
transferred to a different model for distribution.
