Is there anyway I can experiment w/ fog color?

I'm spending time w/ another game (Naval Action) and one thing I noticed is their fog has some blue in it whereas as best I can guess fog in OR is pure gray. I was hoping I could fiddle around a bit and see if adding a bit of blue was an improvement (one does "get" more blue the further out the object in your sight).
(click on image to expand to full size; blue mountains on right are textured green... horizon on left is not foggy gray).

As you can see there is a slight difference in color due to distant fog. On checking the RGB values and comparing the effect of a 1% opacity pure black it seems clear there is a slight blue cast tot he fog.

Is it worth experimenting? I dunno. Maybe. But how?

Actually, fog IS gray cuz it blocks the sun and sky. If you see blue in the above sim then the coders added it unrealistically. http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sign_sorry.gif Dave, fog is gray... http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/pleasantry.gif

Ever hear the phrase blue mountain majesty? Things in the distance look much more blue than they do close up.

More blue in the fog at sea is really a trick of the light reflecting off the ocean. I'm with the fog is gray.

Hi,

I'm going to side with Dave here, The color of the Fog/Haze in the distance is more driven by atmospheric conditions, than an absolute. (having seen the blue on the sea while riding in some newer LSTs for the USMC. Also saw the same thing the sailing Captains of yore did that convinced them, the telescope makers and the physicists of the time that the world was round. Ships sail UP over the horizon. IE you see the masts and superstructure long before you see the hull)

The first mountain across the Mid Atlantic ( in Pennsylvania and New Jersey) was also called Blue Mountain, and a song speaks of Purple Mountains Majesty.

The fog colour is set in Materials.cs on line 437, so you'll need to recompile Open Rails.

I could have sworn this was not pure grey previously, but the current value is indeed pure grey.

Land and clouds are completely different. I spent 4 years in the Navy and never saw blue fog... and, brother, I've been in some real FOG. It's gray, http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sign_sorry.gif Dave.

Now, if you want to talk about haze in the distance then we have a whole 'nother issue here. Haze can be most any color it reflects but fog is gray.

Fog, particularly dense fog, is definitely grey, as it's just a cloud at ground level. Haze is typically a bluish color, though that may vary in some areas. It's been very humid here for the last week or two and the haze definitely has a bluish tint. I would say that the distant 'fog' would be most realistic as a slightly bluish color, but if there is a weather setting that has thick fog in it, that should be straight grey

Down here in the South the hot humid summers have a hazy smokey likeness to the skies.
