Idea for (German) Knorr brake (Type 8)

German steam locomotives mostly used the "Knorr braking system." Many steam locomotives had the "Knorr Brake lever Type 8". These been used till the last years in the steam era and also today still at museuem railways, as well known series as BR50, 52, 41, 44 and even the latest building locomotives BR23.
These brake lever has 6 positions. Typically, the main reservoir is max. 8 bar and the brake pipe pressure 5 bar.

Brake Valve Position
State
OR BrakeContoller Type

(1) QuickRelease
Main reservoir is connected to brake pipe
TrainBrakesControllerFullQuickoverchargeReleaseStart

(2) Running
Train pipe is maintained to 5 bar via reducing valve
TrainBrakesControllerReleaseStart

(3) Hold
Train brake lever is closed
TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart

(4) ApplyHold
Preparing and hold position for braking
TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart

(5a) Apply
braking start (little air off), stepwise braking,
TrainBrakesControllerApplyStart

(5b) Apply
braking start (more air off), stepwise braking,
TrainBrakesControllerFullServiceStart

(6) Emergency
Emergency braking
TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyStart

Remark: 5a to 5b (Apply) is in real live variable (how more to 5b, how more/faster air off). but after my opinion is "two positions" more user friendly in ORTS.

=================================================================================

With using the new option "brake pipe leakage" you can create now in release 1.2 the next train brake lever.

Brake_Train ( 0 1 0.01 0.25
NumNotches ( 7
Notch ( 0.00 0 TrainBrakesControllerFullQuickReleaseStart ) = (1) [Knorr-QuickRelease]
Notch ( 0.20 0 TrainBrakesControllerReleaseStart ) = (2) [Knorr-Running]
Notch ( 0.35 0 TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart) = (3) [Knorr-Hold]
Notch ( 0.40 0 TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart) = (4) [Knorr-ApplyHold]
Notch ( 0.60 0 TrainBrakesControllerApplyStart ) = (5a) [Knorr-Apply]
Notch ( 0.90 0 TrainBrakesControllerFullServiceStart ) = (5b) [Knorr-Apply]
Notch ( 1.0 0 TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyStart ) = (6) [Knorr-Emergency]
)

If the above does not conflict with other brake systems (?), Maybe can created two new changes in ORTS:

1) New token: "TrainBrakesControllerFullQuickoverchargeReleaseStart" with the possibility of overcharging. (BP up to and including MR)
2) Additional option for "fasterfillrate" in notch "QuickRelease".

to make it more perfect, and an additional challenge for the driver not to overload the train. :dance3:

Hello,
What do you think of this setting?

Brake_Train ( 0 1 0.01 0.25
NumNotches ( 7
Notch ( 0.00 0 TrainBrakesControllerFullQuickReleaseStart )
Notch ( 0.20 0 TrainBrakesControllerReleaseStart )
Notch ( 0.35 0 TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart)
Notch ( 0.40 0 TrainBrakesControllerSelfLapStart)
Notch ( 0.60 1 TrainBrakesControllerApplyStart )
Notch ( 0.90 0 TrainBrakesControllerFullServiceStart )
Notch ( 1.0 0 TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyStart )
))

Thanks, these settings I had already tried.

two problems:
1) "TrainBrakesControllerFullQuickReleaseStart" -> "Brake pipe pressure remains limited, as in "ReleaseStart". Also no quicker fill rate of BP.
Therefore my suggestion for a new token.

2) TrainBrakesControllerSelfLapStart -> Normally this works fine. But after "leakage" the brake pipe pressure jumps up from "HoldStart" to "SelfLapStart" again, so brakes are released. (this is not correct...)
I suppose ORTS calculates the "brake lever auxiliary tank". The brake pipe has leakage, but this auxiliary reservoir of course retains its old value. But ??????????????

Subject previous last line, I mean "suppose ORTS calculates the "equalization reservoir". The brake pipe has leakage, but this equalization reservoir of course retains its old value"

Meanwhile seen ORTS indeed calculated the "EQ" reservoir. This therefore gives the pressure increase in the brake pipe (after leakage), as you go from hold toward brakes. :unknw:
