Isn't this nearly the same as CurveForce for variable traincar?

I must admit I didn't remember that feature... but as steamer_ctn pointed out some post above, there are many factors influencing curve squeal, but the most important is the angle of attack, that mainly depends from curve radius and layout of axes. I think both features can be kept alive.

I have installed the switch/squeal sounds in one of my miniroutes and it really does improve the sound experience considerably.

However, I wonder if the following can be explained. In trying to grasp what is going on I have looked in the 6 new *.sms files and am confused by the inclusion of TrackType ( X ) in both the Activation and Deactivation lines. My include *.trk file includes the following additional lines:

ORTSSwitchSMSNumber ( 10 )
ORTSCurveSMSNumber ( 11 )
ORTSCurveSwitchSMSNumber ( 12 )

The switchtrackin.sms file has TrackType ( 10 ) in both Activation and Deactivation.

However the curvesquealtrackex.sms file has TrackType ( 12 ) for both, while curvesquealtrackin.sms has TrackType ( 11 ), and curveswitchtrackex.sms has TrackType ( 10 ) while curveswitchtrackin.sms has TrackType ( 12 )

Is this correct? I think I probably expected both curvesquealtrackex.sms and curvesquealtrackin.sms to reference TrackType ( 11 ), and both curveswitchtrackex.sms and curveswitchtrackin.sms to reference TrackType ( 12 ).

Can anyone please help me to understand?

Martin

Hi Martin,
I understand you are puzzled. The explanation is very simple: OR does not use those TrackType() indications. It uses only the position of the file name within ttype.dat to define where the related files are operating. In fact the TrackType() indication is redundant.

Hi Carlo,
Please excuse me for butting in here, but thanks for the explanation.

Of course, if Martin wishes to make the .sms files "look right", the TrackType values may be changed to match their ttype.dat positions.

Cheers,
Ged

Of course such numbers can be modified to "look right". By the way an advantage in never considering such numbers if that you don't need to edit the files if you insert them in a different ttype.dat, where they have a different position.

Yes, I thought that was a brilliant idea!

Well Done :)

Well done, but not by me to be honest! It's something I already found when I started working with such files.
