I originally floated this idea in the private devs forum. It has had 21 views and zero comments so far in 7 days. Currently OR is behind MSTS in this area, MSTS will allow 3 bogies plus associated wheelsets, OR only caters for 2 bogies and associated wheelsets. I am looking towards the time when we no longer have to make multi sectioned models to get round these limitations. I am seeking views on providing for up to 6 bogies and up to 6 wheelsets per bogie. I cant see anything that might need more than this.

There is one type of articulation that does give me cause for thought. That is where the bogies are attached to a bolster which is then attached to the locomotive or car. That will probably need some extra code developed in order to use it.

I don't believe MSTS supports Bogie3 and wheels31, 32 and 33. TSM documentation would have you believe this, but empirical testing 10 years ago proved this wrong...

MSTS supports four bogies, but does not apply lateral displacement.
Then, the traking of de loco is false.

I suggested many times supporting lateral displacement in OR, with zero results.

Perhaps this time someone will do....

Regards.

I, too, had a nightmare of a time trying to use the '3rd' bogie for the lateral driveshaft for (my Shay). I'm going to have to agree with Coperpen and request up to six possible bogie attachments for our models for ORTS.

Can we have this somewhere on the roadmap, or maybe a Trello card please. Without it, I do not think that OR will be able to progress beyond the multiple section models we currently have to deal with..

Yes, you're right that there's no card about "bogies" on our Trello roadmap.

But anyone can post a suggestion. Just follow the instructions. Then James will fit it into a suitable point on the Roadmap.

Under the road map for version 1.3 is a new 3d model format. Blueprint is here: https://blueprints.l...ec/or-3d-format

The blueprint seems to be material / texture oriented at the moment. Seems like a good opportunity to lobby for expanded hierarchy / model scripting.

It seems that I am unable to add a card to Trello, with the exception of the Steam board. As for the instructions download of a png, all that says is Instructions. So I sent an email to the link provided.

That added a new card for you.

Are there any working models with more than 2 bogies that can be used for testing? As a note, I am hoping the working model follows the standard modeling guidelines without the hacks that I was running into before. I will do what I can.

Edit: I was hoping to start off simple. Say 3 bogies with at least 3 axles. The reason is that there were hacks that I had to test for that would not work under OR so there is a possibility that what we want here will conflict with the hacks.

If you just want to do testing, you do not need a finished model.

I could very quickly knock up a very crude model of something that interests me - a garrat - two bogies each with a sub-bogie... or possibly one with two bogies each with two sub-bogies.

(For a three bogie machine on a rigid frame I could invent one - but like dragons, I am not sure that I have seen one or know of a plan for one.)

Just wondering if the lateral movement idea could be used to improve long wheelbase six wheeled stock (which currently works best following the MSTS fix of pretending they are two bogies) or even with Victorian radial axle coaches...

I have one from the old Abacus trainsim pages. It is a transfer locomotive that has 4 two axle bogies, with each pair of bogies attached to a bolster with the loco body riding on the bolsters.

I also have the part built Little Joe with 4 bogies sans wheels right now.

Most Japanese locos appear to be TriBo's or BoBoBo or BBB depending on your language. So lateral movement of a middle bogie/truck would be very welcome :)

In my humble opinion all you would need is a tri bogie/truck test model with the ability to see the bogie/truck swivel and lateral movement.

Something like below:
