Having a "Blast" experimenting with the realtime mosaic style paint brush feature along with transfers and forests in TSRE.

Really excellent! This is possible also with the "old" Mosaic, but it was quite a long process.

I'll still use mosaic for doing the right of way ballast and other stuff that requires fairly straight lines and other photoshop tricks as well as seasonal snow texture conversion. but TSRE is great for real time freehand simple stuff like river banks, rockcuts and pathways.

Very impressive! Definitely a feature that the MSTS/OR world has neeed for years!

Not to hijack your thread but I did the same with TSRE back in the summer, testing with the Cajon.

can any texture be used? Does the texture for realtime painting need to be to MSTS format, or can I use a texture from textures.com, without modifying it?

As long as its .jpg .bmp .png .ace it will work. I havent had any luck with tga though.

Train Simulator Route Editor?. It is the editor provided by Goku, still a WIP, but much better than the old MSTS dinosaur.
