Part 254 of my epic quest to re-install MSTS etc. after a hard drive crash and replacement... <_<
I've re-installed Route Riter, version 7.6.26 (from what I understand, the most up-to-date version, pre-JKY). Welp, upon trying to run it, I get this error message:
norm1.jpg (114.85K)
Number of downloads: 8
Clicking "OK" loads the utility, which buries itself in the top of my screen. I drag it back down, and if I try to quit this occurs twice:
norm2.jpg (296.91K)
Number of downloads: 3
Then I get this error, followed by a final one:
norm3.jpg (276.59K)
Number of downloads: 5
norm4.jpg (288.67K)
Number of downloads: 0
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By contrast, if I run the program as an administrator, this occurs twice:
admin1.jpg (105.54K)
Number of downloads: 4
Then this happens:
admin2.jpg (97.8K)
Number of downloads: 3
At this point the utility buries itself in the bottom of my screen. As show, the "Quit" button is also malformed, and does not function (no matter how much I click it; I have to press the red "X" at the top-right corner):
admin3.jpg (302.5K)
Number of downloads: 2
Any advice on fixing these issues? AceIt is installed, and works, FWIW.

Just copy the aecit exe into the RR folder. I am sure it has been mentioned before, but using the x86 folder for anything related to MSTS is fraught with possible problems anyway.

Hi Bernie,
As well as copperpen's excellent suggestion, the following was an answer from none other than Mike Simpson to a member on the TS Forum :
I would suggest that it also applies if you're running Win 8.1 or 10!!
Cheers,
Ged

If you are using windows 7, then the Error 75 is almost certainly because RR is not being run as Administrator.
I would suggest that it also applies if you're running Win 8.1 or 10!!

Thanks guys! The AceIt error is gone, but the Runtime 380 error remains, along with the broken quit button.

Hi Bernie,
Have you taken copperpen's advice and re-installed Route Riter away from C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86)??
Error 380 is probably because Java is not correctly installed - R-R MUST have the 32-bit version installed.
See here for several Route Riter error messages : http://www.rstools.info/faq.html

Where is the best place to install RR, then? I assume you need to uninstall it, and then manually add a file directory.
Not sure what bit version of Java I have; I know it is Version 8, Update 60, build 1.8.9_60-b27.

Hi Bernie, I install everything associated with MSTS - ORTS under C:\
Nothing goes in the protected windows folders - program files or program files (x86).
For example RouteRiter is installed in C:\Route_Riter, included inside this folder is the aceit.exe.
C:\ActivityMaster
C:\ConBuilder
C:\Shape File Mgr
C:\Shape Viewer
C:\1TS <<<<<<<<<<<<<< this is the location for the default MSTS installation from the CD, (upgraded to BIN - installed two+ years ago) Not used now
C:\2TS >>>>>>>>>>>>> Location of all Open Rails Profiles (MSTS mini routes) on disk C
F:\2TSF >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Location of all Open Rails Profiles (MSTS mini routes) on disk F, an SSD disk for running OR (duplicates content on C:\2TS)

Hi Bernie,
You uninstall Route Riter in the usual way using Control Panel > Programs & Features.
When running the installer, it will default to C:\Program Files (x86)\Route_Riter; I suggest you change this to C:\Route_Riter
For 32-bit Java, go to this page : https://www.java.com...load/manual.jsp
You can either pick the Windows Online or Windows Offline versions (NOT the Windows Offline (64-bit) version!). The former is a smaller download but it will separately download the Java software; the latter is all self-contained in one download.
Cheers,
Ged

Interesting; I installed my MSTS folder the way you suggested, but never thought to put the utilities in the same place. Will they still work correctly if I put RR there, but don't move all the others? I've got a LOT of utilities installed...
Regarding Java, I think I've got it. I was also a little confused because I have a 64 bit system. I can never recall; one can hande both 32 and 64, and the other cannot, depending on your system. :curiousPC:
I'll report back once I've had a chance to actually sit down at my computer; might be a day or two. :sign_thanks:

Hi Bernie,
Route-Riter will be perfectly OK there :) You don't have to move your other utilities.
Regarding Java, if you run a 64-bit Operating System, both 32- and 64-bit Java can be installed. As Route_Riter is a 32-bit program, it can ONLY use the 32-bit version.
Cheers,
Ged
