Puzzle Route, Version 1

This route consists of the small town of Algernon.

This is a simple trackplan, of an Inglenook style switching puzzle. The Inglenook was created and popularized
by Alan Wright. A lot of information on it can be found at this link: http://www.wymann.in...-inglenook.html

The basic premise of an Inglenook Puzzle is as follows:

1. The locomotive, and all the cars, are the same length.

2. There is a Mainline Track, and two sidings. The switch off of the mainline must be a trailing point
switch for the train. There is room for 5 cars on the mainline, on the frog end of the switch (down the Main).

3. Each of the two sidings holds 3 cars.

4. There is room for 4 pieces of equipment (a locomotive and 3 cars) on the Mainline, at the point end of the switch (up the Main).

5. The full Inglenook setup is that there are 5 cars and 1 locomotive in the train, on the Mainline. There are 3 cars dispersed
on the sidings. The goal of the puzzle is to assemble the departure train, with the cars in a given order. Again, the goal
is to assemble the departure train in a given order.

The specifics for Algernon are as follows:

1. Considering the above Inglenook reguirements, in regards to the 5-3-3-4 lengths of the sidings, the track is sufficient for
equipment up to 15 meters (49 feet) each. Dick Cowen's Steam Era Freight Cars, of which a package will be found at Elvas Tower,
are intended to be used on this. Most of them are 13-14 meters long, which makes the puzzle easier.

2. The boundaries of the puzzle are the bumpers on the two sidings (one is a pile of gravel, the other is a flatcar-ramp),
with the Mainline being confined to the areas between the road crossings. While you're looking at it in the simulator, there is a
track continuing across each road, and disappearing into the forest. Those are Dumb Tracks. If you attempt to foul the crossing,
you'll derail. There is probably a foot or two into the crossing which you may venture, but if your train gets away from you, it'll
derail on the crossing.

3. Algernon has six industries. A Gravel Yard, Lumber Yard, Scrap Yard, Oil Distributor, Freight Dock, and Team Track.
A. The Gravel Yard receives gondolas of gravel. Two different cars are available. Empty gondolas are pulled away.
B. The Lumber Yard receives flatcars of timbers, and of pipes. Empty flatcars are pulled away.
C. The Scrap Yard receives empty gondolas, and ships gondolas of scrap metal.
D. The Oil Distributor receives tank cars of fuel. Two different cars are available. The same cars are removed as empty.
E. The Freight Dock receives boxcars and reefers. The same cars are removed as empty.
F. The Team Track receives flatcars of covered machinery, and flatcars with stakes. Empty flatcars and flatcars of logs are removed.

4. Within the provided activities, the cars for delivery are separate from the cars for pickup. So by the rules, an empty gondola
pulled from the Gravel Yard will go onto the train, and an empty gondola from the train will go to the Scrap Yard. Bending that rule
will short change your puzzle experience.

5. There are 7 Inglenook activities provided. Two Easy, two Medium, two Hard, and one Difficult. The Easy activities have only 3
freight cars on the inbound train, of which all three will be delivered, and three other cars for pickup, leaving only three freight cars
on the departure train. The Medium activities have one 'through' car, which is neither picked up nor delivered. The Hard activities
have two 'through' cars. The Difficult activity also has two 'through' cars, but they're placed at the head of the train, just behind
the locomotive.

6. These are simple activities. After completing the objectives, you'll need to hit ESC to manually finish the activity.

There are 2 Osbourne activities provided.
A. W. Hardin Osbourne created this simple puzzle, of reversing the order of the cars within the train.
B. The Easy Osbourne activity is to reverse the order of 5 freight cars, and have them on the mainline.
C. The Hard Osbourne activity has 8 freight cars.

As previously mentioned, there will be a package of Dick Cowen's Freight Cars in the Elvas Tower File Library. All the of the
equipment needed for this route will in included. If you already have these cars or their repaints, you may do better to use your
present equipment than to download the package. If you decide to conduct a complete car replacement, then you'll want to ensure
that the new cars are 15 meters long or shorter. Even going up to 15 meters, you may encounter growing pains with the new cars as
far as the loose consists placed onto the sidings. But you're probably familiar with all that.

Please enjoy this puzzle route.

Look for a Credits.txt file in the route package. Any file of mine you may reuse at will. The files that other people created,
please follow their wishes for the use of them. There's nothing tricky in here.

This puzzle route is dedicated to Barry, 'Captain Bazza' at Elvas Tower. 'Algernon' is his alternate, poetic, identity.
