You need to set directory where your global and routes are.

Set unexisting route in settings.txt and createNewIfNotExist = false. Route Choosing Window will appear.

Thanks Goku! Wish You'll have energy enough to continue ths project.

A few things I have come across though and I understand it is still a work in progress but is it possible that you will be able to click on a road section and line it up with that particular section? Would be very helpful when placing of buildings, bridges and other things like that.

Try 'stick to trackdb option'.

Also I have noticed you cant lay tracks or roads yet in the editor so I have been going back and forth between your new and the old MSTS Editor to make changes to roads and rails.

You can! See instruction. Press Z afer placing track/road.

All I can add is it appears to have aborted while trying to uncompress and read a .w file, either w-012953+014244 or the one that follows, w-012953+014245; Neither file are actually compressed... the second one has no objects. So perhaps it is w-012953+014244.

It is > 12,000 lines long and contains a few lines like this:
		FileName ( ../../routes/Cal-P/shapes/SLW_1tSwt_w_m06dL_Y.s )

which is an ordinary filename substitution that replaces a file name found in \global\shapes with one in the routes shape folder.
This subsitution is tolerated by both MSTS and Open Rails.

Other than that, no interactives... or anything else unusual.

Program installs and gets to the point of opening any route and then folds up and closes with a windows explorer error. Maybe the new route editor just does not like windows Vista.

Nope.

Based on the screenshot I provided have I correctly identified the tile that caused the problem? If it is I can do a binary search and that may lead to something that is noticeable.

Does the program have any limit/assumption about the max number of objects, max file size? Handles missing textures w/o problems? Everything there does work ok in Open Rails.

If you want to find bug, here is how to:
1. rename WORLD folder and check if route works with no .w files, if so,
2. try to identify broken .w file and rename/move it,
3. in broken .w file do a binary search: delete first half of objects and check if works, otherwise delete other half. repeat

If route crashes on load with no WORLD folder, you probably can't find what's wrong.

Limits are incredibly huge. Route will load with no textures at all.

Important warning about tsre -> msts re compatibility.

Removing whole tracknodes can sometimes cause msts re to crash on save.

To remove empty entries after removing tracknodes, TDB has to be rebuild. My editor moves last items to enpty places. It almost always works, but if last tracknodes have tritems (I think soundregions, maybe other) sometimes it causes msts re to crash on save and it can not be fixed without TDB rebuild.
I do not know why it causes msts to crash.
MSTS RE moves all tracknodes below empty entries instead of moving only last tracknodes and it vastly reduces chance of save crash.

I'm sorry if I have a bit primitive question, but I haven't followed in detail this thread.
What is still missing as of now that prevents using this new RE as a replacement for the MSTS RE?
