I will be using this to start building routes. Your contribution of a route-builder is a contribution to make open rails itself viable for the future. A big thing and I'm grateful.

In some routes the terrain can appear to be very jagged as the topography is not very smooth. This appears to be the case in very mountainous areas where terrain variations are more dramatic.
Hopefully this would allow better "smoothing" of the terrain consistent with the topography of the route area.
Thanks

This is something for both the sim itself and the RE, two approachs, the first being to use a finer detail ttle. MSTS and OR use a detail tile aprox 7.8 metres sq, Trainz I believe uses 5 metre square. One has to b care full here as the amount of data goes up by the square of the smallest dimension.
Another rmethod is to have the ability to replace a 7.8 metre sqaure segment of a tile with on of higher say 2x2 or 4x4 detail. This latter is what I have done in my own terrain display program. In my case the detail tiles are 1 minute of lat and long square (1853 metres square at the equator), each tile being 240x240 elements. 25% of these individual element can be replaced by another element of up 4x4 in detail.

That is an excellent method and idea! Customizable resolution is exactly what a terrain mesh needs. MSTS "does its best" to fake that effect with the Terrain Error scale value, but it isn't fine-grained enough to be really useful or realistic. But a "tile" that can be partially divided to provide parts with extra resolution (ala. trackside) is a very sensible approach.

If Goku does not have RT2 or RT3 might be worth checking them out as far as the terrain painting method along with the tree placement utility.
