#: ../../ORTS.Common/Input/UserCommand.cs:187
msgid "Control Cylinder Compound"
#: ../../ORTS.Common/Input/UserCommand.cs:188
msgid "Control Firing"

What does it mean?

For the Compound see: Wikipedia.
The Firing is also in context of steam locomotives.

So, only editing *.pot-file manually via GitHub will not solve that problem, as I see? As *.pot is consequense of code? but not a reason, right?

Thought the same, but What exactly, at ORTS-context? Which command or parameter?
:)
Was said here above, that "Compound" is command, that turns on the simulation of compound-type steamer's behavior instead of simple-type... Can that be right?

Firing... is it the command, to start throw the fuel into the firebox, as "R" within MSTS??? or something different?

.pot files are generated automatically with XGetText. That parses the C# code and searches for the above mentioned 4 function names, and collects their occasions into the .pot files. So manually editing the .pot files is absolutely ineffective.

Then, I want to ask another question:
For this process to take place,

...XGetText. That parses the C# code...

Have I download newest version of ORTS Source every time, or this is made by commands from the same Update.bat of new Testing version?
At other words, is there sayed C# code, that has been parsed, at compiled testing version, or only at Source? So is testing version's download enough to check for new strings to translate?

You may regenerate the .pot files at any time by running the Update.bat or the Update-Template.bat, and then use the resulted .pot files for updating your ru.po files with Poedit. For sure this is the most reliable method to discover new strings added. I would not rely on the .pot files attached to the source distribution, because I am not sure when the results of the Update.bat are committed back to the git repository, if at all. Actually when some developer adds or modifies such strings, he would be expected to also re-run the Update.bat, and provide the updated .pot files as well, but this might be forgotten sometimes, so just run the Update.bat by yourself to be on the safe side.

I understand it the sme way, but it's not clear yet, the information to generate new *pot-files can be derived only from source(not compiled *.cs), or from testing version(compiled and ready-for-running) programs of ORTS?
I can't see, how that *.bat and/or XGettext tool actually works.

Again: have I download the "Source" every time the new testing version with new functional was released, or the testing version itself is enough?
36MB testing version to play, or 36+42MB Testing+Source

XGetText is parsing the source code, not the compiled exe-s. I'm sorry for the confusion. :) To me using the term C# code as a sysnonym to source code was straight forward, I just forgot that not everyone is familiar with programming. :)

It's OKay, thanks.
Now, I see: so I HAVE to downoad sources of Testing and MonoGame versions every time, after new functions introduced; and update ru.po files through generating new *.pot-files by running update.bat then add strngs by POedit menu command.
So, the next question will be: what for ubdate-pseudo.bat and other batch-files at locales folder, and which one of them is realy most suitable for translation work purpose?

It is enough to download one source, probably the one you are targeting with your Pull Request on GitHub. Use the Update.bat or the Update-Templates.bat. The one you mentioned is not for translators, that is for the native English programmers, who cannot use other translations, but still want to test if GetString works properly, I think.

Ok, It seems, all is clear now.
Will work further.

But one more question:
is it possible to download from GitHub's branch only needed folders(only source, without web-site content and manual-it will be~12MB instead~48 in case of full branch)?
