The next "stable version" following v0.9 will be v1.0 and will be published on the website in a few weeks.

The Open Rails Management Team have issued a release plan to the Development Team for this "stable release" of Open Rails.

To achieve a "stable release", we specify a period of lock-down when no new features are added to the product. During this time, key bugs are fixed and the product tested and re-tested.

There is also a brief window prior to the lock-down when new features can still be added subject to team approval. This window begins tomorrow.

The title "Open Rails 1.0" may suggest more than it delivers. Compatibility with MSTS is at an all-time high but not perfect. Some desirable features of MSTS are still not included. We will continue to work on these aspects after v1.0.

Without the framework of MSTS to guide us, the project will then enter uncharted territory, which is exciting, and there is a lot of planning and design to be done. Of course, in some areas Open Rails has already gone beyond MSTS with some valuable features such as timetables, 3D cabs and multi-user operation.

We hope "Open Rails 1.0" will provide a stable version which can be the basis for building models and tutorials and will serve as a reference point for discussing future developments, performance improvements and backwards compatibility.
