Both, pop-up or key commands, are good. We use key commands on Run 8 and it's ok, with few repetitions we are familiar with all combinations. The pop-up makes all fast and clean to set up.
We had only a problem trying the DPU modification. The percentage power per notch are not determined by the .eng file. Seems like the DPU modification changed the percentage with his own values.

SHIFT + W = Fence up or to the right if already up with more than one DP set
SHIFT + S = Fence to the left of down
SHIFT + D = Throttle up \ dynamic down
SHIFT + A = Throttle down \ dynamic up
The last two working similar to the combined control throttle handle that is available in OR now which allows the use of the A and D keys to move from throttle to dynamic braking. To me it seems like the controls would be very simple if set up this way.

Reading back through this topic I found this post. I think it is important to note that this statement is only true if there is a communication loss between the controlling locomotive and the DP consist. It is a safety feature as mentioned. As long as there are no communication problems I can set a full service and the DP consist will still load and respond to commands from the controlling locomotive. An emergency brake application will however cause the DP consist as well as the controlling locomotive to idle down. It may also be noted that a DP consist will also maintain the last command it received for up to 45 min. If communication has not been restored by that time the DP locomotives will also idle down. This is why the safety feature exist. I don't think we have any plans to model communication problems ( I hope ), just thought I would mention it.
