OK, I see you are running v2883 and experiencing the problems. I'm running 2869 and the brakes are working perfectly. Test train, 3DTrains v4 F7 ABBA, 50 SP&S Loaded Tim Muir USRA boxcars, ATSF Caboose. Test grade, WB out of Kingman on the Seligman Sub (Wirth) 1.8% down.

MSTS
Application 0-1% minimum tap = 6 lb reduction, 15 lbs at the BC
Application 2% = 6.5 lb reduction, 16 lbs at the BC
Application 11% = 7.8 lb reduction, 20 lbs at the BC
Application 27% = 11.5 lb reduction, 26.5 lbss at the BC

ORTS
Application 0-1% minimum tap = 6 lb reduction, 15 lb at the bc
Application 7% = 7 lb reduction, 18 lbs at the BC and a perfect holding set at 29.5 MPH

Brake settings for all of the cars:
BrakeEquipmentType( "Handbrake, Triple_valve, Auxilary_reservoir, Emergency_brake_reservoir" )
BrakeSystemType( "Air_single_pipe" )
MaxBrakeForce( 23.4kN )

MaxHandbrakeForce( 27.5kN )
NumberOfHandbrakeLeverSteps( 100 )

TripleValveRatio( 2.5 )
EmergencyResVolumeMultiplier ( 1.461 )
MaxReleaseRate( 15 )
MaxApplicationRate( 3.5 )
MaxAuxilaryChargingRate( 5 )
EmergencyResCapacity( 7 )
EmergencyResChargingRate( 5 )
EmergencyBrakeResMaxPressure( 90 )
BrakeCylinderPressureForMaxBrakeBrakeForce( 50 )

So something has happened between 2869 and the later version of 2883.

Off to download 2883 to see if I get similar results to Scott's test.

Hi Herb,

I'm using both BLW's free L&N F-9's - probably one of their earliest works and just to make sure I am also testing with later Monon F-3's - the coal hoppers are my PRR set from the FL... Both locomotives give very similar results... I dropped the caboose just to simplify things but it didn't change the results...

I'm on my epic commute home at the moment so I won't be much help for a while...

Regards,
Scott

Scott and all who are watching this thread:

I just ran my test train on build 2883 and I get the same results as under 2869. 7% gets me 17-18 lbs on the brake cylinders and a perfect holding set, this time at 34.5 MPH on a 35 zone.

There is definitely something wrong with the cars or the engine controllers. You too are getting 15 lbs in the cylinders (I hadn't looked closely at your second screen shot until now) and that shouldn't be stopping your train. :)

I have just run my test train, 3xsd70Ace + 41x100t hoppers using the pro cast iron brake figures. On the level braking from 23mph with a 1% set takes 2200 feet to stop. X2883.

Scott, I think the problem is in your settings on the wag file. How about making a backup of that file and replacing it with this and see what it does?

Attached File  WrxPRR1hop55-LD.wag (3.95K)

Hi Herb,

Thanks for taking the time to look...

I've got some of Mark's work as well - let me try some different equipment...

If this is a simple equipment issue - my apologies for troubling everyone...

Regards,
Scott

Hi Herb,

Will do - I won't be home until after 1900 EST - so it will be later tonight...

Maybe Lindsay is right... Prieger's Mass() * 0.33 is to high... that Mass() * .1 would be better.

You would also need to set your friction value, if you want prototypical results.
