I can usually work things like this out but after several hours I am still stumped. :fiesta: I recently set up a new PC running Windows 7 and installed MSTS with no problems. Today I finally wanted to install ORTS on the same machine but it refuses to run telling me it needs .NET Framework 3.1.

I read the install instructions which noted that on a Win7 machine you need .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed. I checked my installed program list and it did not show SP1 for that software. For that matter I also found that I did not have a Win7 system updated to SP1! :sign_thanks: That lead to about two hours of searching to figure out why my Win7 would not do an auto update and I couldn't do a manual update either! I finally found an answer and got that fixed. :fiesta: I now have Win7 SP1 running; I also downloaded and installed the SP1 package for for .NET 3.5 and the list of Windows updates shows this as having been installed. But OR will still not run; it's still asking for the 3.1 version. :fiesta: Can someone please help me? :ko2:

Thanks,

Paul :D

NET Framework 3.5 SP1 you don't need to install in Win7, it is part of the system.
But you need perhaps to activate it, see picture, sorry but I have a german system

Thanks, Paul :sign_thanks:

Sure, why not just give it what it wants --- link to 3.1 (for gaming I think?) manual download from microsoft http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=15163

Edit: I checked and I do have Microsoft XNA Framework Resdistibutable 3.1 installed and I believe that is a requirement for Open Rails.

Are you looking for Net3.1? I have a copy if you meed it if you want it.

I believe RH is right. You need Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 to run OR.

Well, that was way too obvious! :lol2: Thank You Gerry. :oldstry:

But seriously, I guess I misread the installation manual. I went back and read it again and with hindsight I now take the instructions to be to install the .net 3.1 and also be sure that .net 3.5 is installed if you are running Windows 7. After what I went thru to get my Windows auto update to work I would not have thought about trying to install .net 3.1 since it does not include Windows 7 in it's list of applicable operating systems.

Thanks again for the help. :) All is working fine now.

Best,

Paul :D

Indeed, it's a never ending confrontation that you can never truly win so you must learn to simply persevere and take gratification in the small victories that can come from the effort.
