Good morning gentlemen and ladies,
Can anyone explain as to why, when exploring a route, the steam/smoke works perfectly, but on running an activity on the same route, with the same locomotive,the steam/smoke becomes very intermittent and at times non-existent ?
I hope someone can help, as I find this very frustrating and annoying.

That's usually indicative of several AI or loose placed steam engines within the Activity. The solution is typically to simply start your activity, save, then reload the activity. The smoke should resume normally.
