Hi John,

Go into the Utils folder, right click on the tsunpack icon, select properties, and let us know what the created date and time says.

Paul

Here is the date you request to know and the date and time is May 07, 01 9:56:10 P.M.

Not sure other members of this forum have the same information of TSUNPACK in UTILS Folder in the program of Microsoft Train Simulator.

Hi John,

That's the same as my tsunpack, so it's the same version with the update.

Right click on the shortcut and have a look at properties again. Open the shortcut tab and make sure the

Target is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\UTILS\tsunpack.exe"

and the Start in is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\UTILS"

If you have the game in Program Files it won't say (x86) though.

PROGRAM FILES (X86)?! :pleasantry:

Not good, not good at all. It´s likely the Windows user account control (on Vista and later) will throw a wrench in the works there with virtual copies of files, or whatever it is called. The best solution would probably be to just get MSTS out of there... (I know, lot´s of work...)

Cheers, Markus

Hi Marcus,

Well, if they are going to throw a wrench in the works they better get at it. The program wouldn't run in Program Files when using the tutorial from stream4me, after the third attempt I followed someones instructions and have never had a problem running MSTS in (x86), that was over two years ago. Open Rails is also running just fine in (x86).

Running virus not running at all, that's the choice I had, and I'm in it about seven days a week.

Now I am not sure what to do to put the program of Microsoft Train Simulator? You mean that I should install the whole program of Microsoft Train Simulator in " C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\ " or create a new folder with " C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\UTILS\tsunpack.exe " What I did is to put just the UTILS Folder not the whole program of Microsoft Train Simulator. Hope that I understood you what you said in your reply. If yes, then it's still the same with " Failed to open package "

Hi John,

No. If your MSTS program is in Program Files, you should see the shortcut saying:

Target:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\UTILS\tsunpack.exe"

and your Start in line should read:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\UTILS"

... my game is in (x86) that's why my target and start in lines may be different.

Just wanting to make sure your shortcut is pointing to the right program... trying to eliminate things to try to figure out why your shortcut isn't unpacking.

OK and here is what I have for mine on my desktop. I did follow the instructions about installing the program of Microsoft Train Simulator for Windows 7. But I did not use the word with " c:\1MSTS " and the way mine is setup with " c:\MSTS " I believe that will not make any difference with those two setups in highlighted with bold that are shown here. And I just checked with the line in the box to make sure the target in shortcut with " tsunpack.exe "

C:\MSTS\UTILS\tsunpack.exe

But still can't even unpack the apk file because of the error with " Failed to open activity "

I am not sure what else will fix the problem with tsunpack.exe. Anyway thank you for your best effort trying to solve this problem for me.

Thank you,

John

There are two other possibilities to consider:

1] The tsunpak.EXE file is corrupted,

2] The .APK file is corrupted.

...and as an afterthought,

3] Is the .APK file format 'associated*' with tsunpak.EXE?

Cheers Bazza.

*Setup in W7 so double-clicking an .APK file will automatically open it in tsunpak.

I have several installs of MSTS, none are in any Program Files folders. In fact I have never installed it to that location with any OS I have used. With Win 7 I noticed that simply clicking the apk like one used to do does not work, generates the errors that John is seeing. The only method that works for me is the good old Drag 'n drop. I have tsunpak in the Utils folder of each MSTS "install" and unzip an apk into the utils folder, then drag it onto the tsunpak. Works every time.
