This evening I am trying to unpack the APK file with TSUNPACK in UTILS in MSTS with my operating system of Windows 7 Home Premium on my desktop. When I right-clicked the APK file and show me to open with TSUNPACK but I got the message with " Failed to open package " Now I clicked the TSUNPACK.exe as right click with " Run As Administrator " Then got the message, " A Package filename is required, ie tsunpack MyActivity.TAP " Now do I have to change something inside the operating system of Windows 7 to change to let the APK file open not TAP file?? If yes then tell me how to do this please?

Thank you,

John

This is an old fix for the problem, but how it works in W7 is for experimentation. The info is ex steam4me.

What's with the "Failed to open Package" message when I try to open a packaged activity? Short answer: Open Explorer. >View | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to packaged activity. Click on "Packaged Activity". Click "Edit". Click "Edit". Change Application used to perform action to "E:\MSTS\Utils\TSUnpack.exe" "%1" where MSTS is your MSTS directory: ie change "|" to "%1". Click Ok | Close | Close.

Have you got the TSUnpack fix installed, that can be downloaded from so many places and, AFAIK, even comes with RouteRiter?

I have no problems unpacking APKs on Win7.

Cheers, Markus

Another way that's been working for me is to go into the TsUnpacker and make a shortcut for the desktop. The just drag the APK file to the shortcut and it then does everything it use to in XP>

Are you using mini-routes? You can get odd behavior if the registry entry points elsewhere than your intended mini-route.

I have to say I have had ongoing problems getting activities unpacked in Windows 7. I have found the method of dragging the .apk file onto the tsUtilities file to work better - I don't think I've ever got it going by right clicking.

Christopher -- No I don't use mini routes at all on my desktop. OK want to ask you about dragging the .apk fie onto the tsUtilities file to work better. You mean the program of Route_Riter or not. I see one message that someone replied to me about this program of Route_Riter. Can you tell me more about this with tsUtilities.

Thank you,

John

Have you renamed the folder containing route you want the ACTs to go to to some other name than it´s default? If so, TSunpack will throw errors like "This activity needs a route xyz to be installed" or along these lines.

Hi John,

Open the Train Sim folder,

Open the Utils folder

Find the tsunpack application icon (black, grey, and white)

Right click on it and select "create shortcut". It should tell you it can't create one in this folder it will have to go on you desktop.... click OK, that's where you want it anyway.

Close everything.

Open a route and then the Activities folder.

Find and APK file, left click on it and drag it to the shortcut on your desktop you just made and drop it.

It will start doing everything it use to... tell you it's creating various files, just like the good old days.

Paul :-)

Paul and want to say thank you for your tutorial about this. Unfortunately still the same with the message " Failed to open package " Now I am not sure what else to solve this stupid tsunpack becasue I have tried everything with other members telling me in their replies.

Guess that I have to live without tsunpack to open the apk file.

Thank you again,

John
