Hello, I would like to ask whether it would be possible in Open Rails send information to the PC memory? and then read and sent to the control device (in real time with minimal delay)

time, speed, pressures, voltage, Characters, signal, repeater, volts, amps, others?

I am the creator of counters and controlling OR MSTS, control is not the problem, the problem is rather to obtain information for the counters. Thanks for all the answers. Howky

I see that requests about possibility to access OR train variables increase. Maybe a standard interface could be developed for access by external programs.

Some time ago I suggested the interface would be TCP/IP or just a web server, similar to e.g. XBMC. Than we can create both MCU and e.g. Android based interface. Now me and my students are working on RailDriver USB HID protocol extension. Will let you know about our progress.

Cheers

Matej

Maybe we could also see an API which transmits train position and switch information in an ATCS compatible format?... :)

Umm......http://www.atcsmon.com/100_4_0.htm

I would prefer to see the OR variables exposed in a simple way to start with. This would be most helpful for using USB interfaces that a hardware person could craft into a train controller other than Raildriver. Other things like variable weather come to mind....(METAR for Trains?!)

If anybody wants to do the grunt work for ATCS, be my most welcome guest! But be prepared for a lot of work, time that would be best spent on a much needed Route Editor instead.

Agree that the priorities need to be elsewhere, but the beauty of doing things in Agile and open source is sometimes you get the small things quickly.

Not sure how much it would take to do the ATCS feed -- the simplicity of ATCS is all it contains are changes in status for a given signal. Looks to me like that's already being done internally for the dispatcher display and for multiplayer.

Hi guys,
we have with my colleague some idea about transmit information. The information about speed, pressures, signals and other, take data from the ORTS on PC Serial port and transmit out, and I create with PIC microcontroler PICAXE hawrdware which transform data from PC to components in speedometer, pressure indicators, signal indicators and other. Is it a big problem implement our idea ?

Hi Howky,
good job!
If I try to go to your first link, I get following message :

No idea what this means.
From your video I see that your simulated cab also trasmits commands to the PC: is this also done through microprocessor and serial line?
