weter, what, pray tell, is that two-tone blue ALCO-looking thing? It's very interesting, in that it's much like a box motor with hoods. Looks like something the Milwaukee Road might have used.

So, please look here:
http://www.elvastowe...post__p__290626
After land-lease period and legendary "Stalin's approval" (I'll tell You, if You want to know that legend), it was decided to base afterwar diesel locomotives design on AlCo's hood RSDs (there were also some Baldwin's Дб carriage-like diesels leased). So, exact replica with metric dimensions of draws and parts and localized components have been designated as ТЭ1 (diesel-electric first series), while polar variant with warm shelter above diesel received type name ТЭ5. Also there were gas-generator tender equipped ТЭ4, able to fire coal or wood for operating it's diesel, using gas - i.e. consuming more availabke and more cheap solid fuel (using steamer-equipping infrastructure) instead of oil distillates.
This way, development of pre-War diesel locomotive series was ceased.

The models of Да (diesels by AlCo - i.e. genuine land-lease AlCo's RSD with 5' gauge wheel pairs), ТЭ1 (i.e. it's localized replica) and polar variant ТЭ5 - with 3D cabs are downloadable from new replatek's team site.

Diesels West GP-30 ( a favorite model) with a short rattler on my modified Puzzle layout. This engine makes all the right EMD 567 sounds that I need to hear once in awhile, -for easy listenin'.
