Testing four very unhappy GP9s on Mullan Pass.

50-odd loaded 100-ton coal hoppers and a 1.5% grade meant that the forces balanced out right at the speed of max continuous tractive effort.

I guess these would also fit in the "fictional railroads" thread, no?

Eric, very nice scenery. So it's fictious route?

No, it's a Montana Rail Link route by TrainSimulations. The locomotives I painted are fictional, though. I use them when I'm testing new cars.

Here's some scenes from activities that I've been making since January:

D&RGW Train 9 - the overnight train to Craig - takes on water at the Rock Creek Tank on a cool summer evening in 1951.

Meanwhile in Denver during the same time period, activity is high. Seen in this scene is is follows:

Track 1 is the California Zephyr, just departing.
Track 2 is the D&RGW Royal Gorge, departing at 8:50 AM.
Track 3 is the UP City of St. Louis, which is running 5-10 minutes late.
Track 4 is the UP Pony Express, also departing at 8:50 AM.

Meanwhile, we have 4 other trains at Denver's Union Station:

Track 8 is the D&RGW San Luis, a 3rd train that's leaving at 8:50 AM.
Track 7 (barley visible) is the UP Denver Omaha service (the car have yet to be moved out of the way).
Track 6 is the UP City of Denver service, which arrived at 8:30 AM.
Track 5 is the D&RGW Prospector, which has arrived at 8:15 AM.

Lamy, 1963: the ATSF WB Grand Canyon meets the eastward Super Chief/El Capitan train (the 2nd section).

At a siding between Raton & Las Vegas in 1953, the Chief meets the El Capitan.

Ft. Madison, 1953: the EB El Capitan meets the WB Kansas City Chief.

A few hours later, the El Capitan arrives at Chicago's Dearborn Station, & we see the arrived train & the yet to depart Kansas Citian.

Nice looking Geep models, Erick. Yours?

Also, good to see the term "V scale" that I coined and gave to the V scale community back in 2002/3 still in use! I always thought the term "V scale" to be quite apt and a blanket term for any genre of rail simulation. (MSTS/OR, Trainz, Railworks/etc.)

Yep. They're available at train-sim.com and are repaints for the Soo Line GP9R kit that's also available there. The 100-ton quad hopper kit that the BN paints are based on is public domain there as well (although the BN repaint packs themselves are payware at Tiger Trains).

I've been using the term V-Scale to describe simulations of all kinds since I first came across your web page. The term made instantaneous sense to me because it feels like it describes how simulations are really different from both other games and model railroading.

An evening on the L&YR Heartland route. Still missing one or two things for the activities, but that can wait for the morning.
